In-team NHL Fights

I was telling my brother the other day about some in-team rivalries that resulted in fights. I remember a few years ago (perhaps the season the Ducks went to the Finals) Kariya fought Pavel Trnka on the ice, then Kariya demanded Trnka get traded and bam...see ya Trnka.

But I also remember footage of Matt Cooke fighting someone on the Canucks during a practice. Any Canucks fans recall this and who it was?

Not in the NHL but in the OHL, everybody must remember Steve Downie and Aki Alliu or whatever his name was..

Well what exactly happened? Everyone on the thread just talked like they knew what happened without saying exactly what occurred? I'm guessing a player got something put in his ass? Ouch!

And what about the fight? Did a fight break out over it?

I was in a Fraternity in college, so I know about hazing. But I didn't have to do any "Gay Sh$t" as we like to refer to sadistic anal entries.

They made the rooks on Windsor get into the bathroom on their coach bus naked, put like 5 guys in there or something. He said that he wouldn't do it so then everyone called him a bitch, then he got sick of it snapped in praccy on Downie, started chirping and then they fought, twice.

You know what I find funny about that story. They told the kid to get into the shower naked with 5 other dudes, and then when he didn't, they called him a bitch.

It was Komisarek & Chris Higgins

The Habs also had a verbal thing between Kovalev and Begin after a game this year, and most remember Koivu & Ribeiro a few years ago.

I bet this happens on most teams at some point in the season. The thing with teams like Montreal, Toronto, Detroit etc...is that they have as many media at PRACTICES as some get at games. So, of course, it gets talked about more than say, if Carolina or Columbus have a in Practice fight.

Well today the two "hardass" kid on my team (you know, the ones that always take stupid penalties after the whistle, or after the other teams player is already in the box they skate by to say something and get the even up call) and myself almost got into it after a game. We lose 3-0 in a pretty close game actually and they decide to stand in the doorway of our locker room and talk crap as the other team goes off the ice, which is really cool. I tell them a few select explicit words about how tough they are and the number of dumb penalties they take, as well as their overall game in general, then sit down and smile at them as 3 or 4 of my teammates have to hold them back as they try and come at me. To top it off, coach walks in the room, he didnt see or hear anything, and goes something along the lines of "if you all would've hustled as much as dirk (me) did this game we might have actually put points on the board." I lean forward, look down towards them, and smile...

Classic.

On that note, actually fistfighting a teammate is really dumb. If your pissed, do helmets and gloves, or just gloves. Theres no sense in severely hurting someone whos on your team. However, some of the best scraps I've seen have been at Pens training camp or preseason intersquad scrimmages, but those guys were fighting for a spot in the big show.

If I remember it correctly, Shanny was tagging Janney's wife and I'm thinking it was around the time they had to trade Janney to Vancouver for Shanny, who was given up as compensation for the Blues signing Nedved.

Tocchet and Brind'Amour were good friends and supposedly, Lindros was cheating with Brind'Amour's wife. So in the locker room, Tocchet beat up Lindros, Shortly after that Brind'Amour was traded to Carolina.

Komisarek and Higgins are both from Long Island, NY. Maybe a rivalry? I didn't know Higgins went to Yale. I thought JD said during a Montreal-Rangers game that Higgins' Dad was a cop or fireman or something like that. I didn't know cops did well enough to send their kids to Prep Schools and Yale!

You would think that teammates would conduct themselves differently. But they're human too. These kinds of stories exist in all Professional sports.

I don't think it was that big a deal...in fact, If I'm not mistaekn they are good friends from their years in the "A" together.

They were kinda laughing it off in interviews after tha fact.
