Therrien goes off on Pens

Recommended Posts

I watched Michael Therrien's interview after another Penguins loss tonight and he basically went off on his team. Among other things he said his defense squad is soft and seem like they are trying to be the worst in the league, which they are doing a good job of. Nobody on the team cares, they make it seem like they do, but he knows they don't.

Also complained that after Kovalchuk's antics the other night nobody did anything about it. He said at least Talbot tried but kind of late when there's only 2 seconds left in the second game of the home and home. I think he finished up with saying something along the lines of these guys should all be giving 50% of their salary back because they only go out and play with half effort every game.

I like this guy, at least he tells it the way it is. And for all the Crosby bashers you'll be happy to know he didn't even have any praise for the kid. Max Talbot and Fleury were about the only two he had anything good to say about.

Well he has to do something. The Pens have the talent up front and a good young goaltender, but they can't win games. Either they don't start the game well, or they can't keep a lead. There is a lot of potential on that team, but they have to find a way to win games. I wouldn't be surprised if the Pens made a major trade to try and shake things up.

Trade Crosby.

I wouldn't be surprised if LeClair ends up back in Philadelphia for the playoffs, he's an upgrade over Brashear on the LW. Also seems Pittsburgh is still shopping Malone with a lot of interest from other teams. The problem is Pittsburgh won't deal him one for one, they want a multiplayer deal. Actually smart on their part, dump some dead weight if they're going to trade Malone.

man he really ripped into his team, wonder if that'll motivate them.

I doubt it. Maybe it'll get him fired though, you know, since the vets and Crosby won't like that they got ripped by coach T.

This season's a writeoff for the Pens. What a way to exit Pittsburgh - "Sorry for the stinker of a season - we'll take Sid and leave now."

i think they should keep recchi, he actually hustles. but Therrien is right, they arent playing good at all. if they shave the dead weight, bring some rookies in and let them play.

Well Thank God Thibault is getting surgery. Atleast he wont be playing anymore this year, but certainly noone will take a trade for him now. Pens not looking so good, what a dissappointment <_<

I was at the game and apparently Nash and LeClair fought but I didn't even see it...there were lots of little shoving matches breaking out.

I liked Zherdev and Crosby elbowing each other and waiting for other players to bail both of them out

Talk about responding.

If I were the coach I might walk away after tonight., This team is hopeless

Once again, at least people now see Eddie O was not the problem

I agree, if you are Therrien you've got to be going crazy, especially after he left the minor league team that was tearing it up in the AHL. However I don't think anyone ever thought Eddie O was the problem, some of the players may have liked to use him for an excuse for their lousy performance but that's about it. Oh yeah 6-1 is a great way to respond, way to go Pens.

Maybe this is just all a part of the Penguins' master plan...trying to better their position in the Phil Kessel sweepstakes. Giving St. Louis, Boston and Chicago a run for their futility money.

kessel didn't look all that impressive in the world juniors despite the fact that he was the leading scorer....as many members have pointed out, he's only got the one move where he flies down the wing and tries to put the puck through the defencemen, and we all know that stuff's not going to work in the nhl

Seems like a crazy 3rd...How did the fights end up?

Just got done watching the game on the DVR. Fights were as follows in my opinion.

1st period

Shelley/ Roy - Draw

2nd period

Rupp/Malone - Rupp - Malone seemed to lose his balance or get knicked with one early didn't last long.

Shelley/Roy - Draw - Slight edge to Shelley, neither doing any damage.

Hainsey/Armstrong - Edge Hainsey - Landed a few on Armstrong who got his jersey pulled over his head.

3rd period

Hainsey/Odelein - Edge Odelein - Landed one solid one and a few more before being broken up.

Nash/LeClair - Draw - Sweater stretcher along the boards.

Weren't any great fights but at least it seemed like Pittsburgh cared that they were getting spanked tonight.

I agree, but he's probably still going to go #1.

He's now #3 according to the ISS ratings, behind Erik Johnson and Toews.

Let's go Toews!

It would be an interesting experiment if he called up the entire Wilkes-Barre team to play a game in the NHL and have the current Penguin team play in the AHL and see what happens. The Pens look like a Sunday night beer league team out there.

Best idea I've read so far! LOL!

Wouldn't that cause some excitement in the NHLPA Grievance office! They'd be spinning!

Great idea, though. Some AHL teams would hold there own, I believe.

I dont know if this is true, so dont go fliipin out if it isnt, i heard it from a friend down in Pittsburgh, and he got it from a local paper.

Apparently Terrian said that Crosby was the only one on the team that never gave up, and played hard for the full 60 minutes. They're considering giving him the "C" if Lemiux's health takes a wrong turn.

Again, i'm not sure if it was true.
