beaver5 1 Report post Posted January 17, 2006 What are your opinions on chew or the various other names this stuff has. Im just starting to get into the age where packing a lip comes into play. Now i've dipped for a little while and I dont know if I should continue.Ive seen some of my friends and older players with like black gums and kind of holes or something in there lip.Is it that bad that these effects will show up a little while down the road?hahahathanks guys.On a side note. Whats your favorite flavor.Mine is berry, but here in canada we dont have peach. My buddy got like 8 tins of peach from the states and i had a dip of peach and it was amazing.:)

SR27 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2006 I liked cherry and whisky. Have met an old friend last weekend and he had some he brought from the states. Back in Juniors we would do it all the time but nowadays it´s hard to come by and I even think they banned it here in Germany.

Chadd 916 Report post Posted January 17, 2006 honestly chadd?I have never argued anything youve ever said and i want to know whyyyou always have reasons for what you sayyy There is no health benefit from dipping or whatever people in your area call it. There is a chance it can cause serious health problems and no decent chick wants to get nasty with any guy who has a mouth full of dirt. ;) Plus - 0Minus - everythingPretty simple decision to me. #94 3 Report post Posted January 17, 2006 I had been chewing/dipping for 3 years...It was my New Years Resolution to quit chewing/dipping. Mission Accomplished.I have not had a chew/dip in over 3 weeks. I saw the effect it was having of both my health (gums and heart) and my appearance, not to mention my wallet, and decided it was time to quit.Honestly, it was extremely difficult. You get extreme urges, headaches, and you get "the shakes." Or at least I did...I am very happy I quit.
mack 44 Report post Posted January 17, 2006 Not a habit at all, but sometimes I'll just pick up Red Man and Big League Chew and that's the end of it.
ryno 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2006 I agree with what the other guys have said, just quit now. I've been dipping skoal for 10 years now (since 17) and am currently in the process of quiting, like JR said it isn't easy. At $4 a can, at least one can a day, it makes me sick just thinking about the money I've wasted over the years that could have been used for other things. Racer8 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2006 But still is the occasional dip ok?like im not a freak obsessor over the stuff but just once in a while i might throw one in... I was never a chewer. I started smoking instead. Occasionally at first. Then a bit more...more...more, untill I put away about a pack to two packs a day. I first started when I was 15. Quit at 25. I'm 30 now. 5 years later...a few drinks with the boys after a game and guess what I want... I started something that apparently doesn't end even though I resist the temptation. Think of it this way: Have you ever changed curves? Imagine using a curve that is amazing for 10 games. Then you can't do anything with the curve. Can't shoot, pass, or stickhandle. The rest of the season you suck with this curve. So you quit the curve and use another. Great, but in the third period of every game for the rest of the season, and for every game of your life thereafter you wish you had the curve that sucked. Make sense? Why play with a curve that makes you worse? Is the occasional dip ok? Probably. Is the occasional smoke ok? Probably. I can tell you, however, that's not how it works. You make the call. As Chadd implied, ask yourself this: list one benefit of tobacco. One. Just one. If you can't then why even bother with a little. Feels good for awhile, but soon the buzz will go away and it doesn't come back. You might quit using tobacco everyday, but it is something that you never really quit. Is chew a part of hockey culture? Resist it. I started smoking because I couldn't chew. Is homoerotic hazing a part of hockey culture? Peer presure need only go so far. Read Chadd's signature of human stupidity and the universe. Then decide if chew is for you. A wise man learns from his mistakes. A wiser man learns from the mistakes of others. My two cents. Jason Harris 31 Report post Posted January 17, 2006 But yes i believe you can get mouth cancer? I read an article about an ex major leaguer who goes around talking to high school and college age baseball players. He's missing part of his jaw and lips because cancer ate them away.Yes, chewing tobacco can cause cancer.
Hooah4 12 Report post Posted January 17, 2006 Quit now. I quit cold turkey when I was 23. 5 years of hardcore dippin'. I was up to 2 tins a day. Nicotine is more addictive than cocaine. Everytime I get a canker sore, etc... I worry about oral cancer. There are better ways to spend money than spitting it away.

donkey87 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2006 A couple of my buddies chew, and they spend a bunch of money on it. My uncle used to chew until it messed up his lip. It's just not worth it. Pay money to get something that is just going to mess you up is insane. QUIT NOW. If not because of the health reasons, just think of all the money you will save.
