new skate fitting idea

Recommended Posts

does anyone know if something similar to this sizing machine exists for skates? basically, you stand in it, a scanner rotates around you and measures your body dimensions, then suggests clothing brands and sizes that suite you. If this was made for feet, it could take a lot of guesswork out of finding the right fitting skate. also, manufacturers could take the data they get from these machines and use it to design new skates that fit the majority of foot types even better.

that would work amazingly well.

but it would be hard to develope such a machine because there are so many different kind of feet out there

y invest big coin into that when they can measure your foot with the custom measurements or the standard foot measurer that is most likely a bauer or ccm one in shops,.

I agree, it would cost a LOT of money to develop something like this from scratch, but i'm sure a lot of people got their foot measured with the standard foot measurer and found out after skating in their brand new $600 skates that the arch was too high, or their heel was too narrow, or their foot didn't match with the last of the their skates and now have hotspots that require more money and effort to punch out, all because an eager beaver salesman was sloppy in fitting the customer.

also, think about how much money nike must have spent working on the one90 with it's super customizable boot. if you can simply make your skates in a way that fits most people really well, it would be worth it to invest in a machine, then build in good fit to all your skate line and have a good product all across the board. maybe i'm just dreaming lol :P

There is a little shoe shop in town here that has this special machine that you stand on and it tells you all the dimensions of your feet. I saw/used it after i bought my 8090's just messing around and everything seemed to work out with what skate i bought. It tells you arch: high low medium and all the other widths at various locations on your feet. there was a bunch of little metal round things that i guess gave and measured based on where there was pressure applied. Just thought id throw it out there that it does exist and you can even print out the picture of your feet with the dimensions so if you are thinking of getting custom skates i guess you could find one or come visit me and have them print it out and send it to the company. just an idea

those take time and a person who knows what they're doing, which probably won't be readily available in sportchek. last time i bought a pair of skates there, it was 2 sizes too big, 1 width too narrow and the arch was too high.

travis - problem solved then. just need to get more of those machines in hockey shops :)

Sorry, I think its a stupid idea too.

One of the great parts about hockey is the amount of personal time it takes in order to get the gear that works for you.. Measuring tape, a foot sizer, baking your skates and ordering from a LHS instead of some huge retailer should get you better results than some scanner.. Sorry, but real world experience and years of background with sizing skates from my local dealer is more than enough info for me to choose the right fitting skate.

Dont get me wrong.. Im sorry that you have been fit poorly in the past.. But why would you buy a pair of $600 skates from a shop that you dont know the dealer. Ask around.. See if that dealer has a good rep.. Do some personal research and see what fittigs would best suit you. I am going to be getting a pair of mission L7s in a week. I have done my research and know that they are the right skate for me for both fit and performance. Use some common sense too.. your 9E foot isnt going to fit in a 9E bauer skate no matter how you bake it. Be smarter than some shitty coin-op foot scanner..

Not everyone is lucky enough to have a LHS that has knowledgable staff close by! If this could cut the number of people being incorrectley fitted, coursing pain and lost $$$, it sounds like a great idea to me!

Not to mention how the models and fits change each year with redesigns and new models.
