power plays

Recommended Posts

my high schools power play is doing really bad this season and our terrible coach isnt changing anything, what are some good setup's for an effective power play

right now we basically run and overload on the left side and then try to have the pointman slide into the middle and shoot which doesnt really get any quality shots or provide a whole lot of options

Throwing the puck on net while others screen and/or crash always seems to work best for me. If the man at the point isn't pressured right away, you can always look for a back door play.

a 4 way triangle usually works for us. If you have the man advantage keep a man behind the net, most teams will not come after you. Which gives you time to look for the right pass, but if they do, the you make the quick pass and you will have a v.short 5-on-3

ive seen a pp that has worked very well using 2 men at the point one in the slot and 2 down low but you have to have exceelent passing or it gets owned - what do pro and college teams do it seems like they just pass around in a circle and try to get a shot from the point

what we did for high school was take our biggest able-body, stick him top of the crease, then put offset wingers on the dots, and offset d-men at the point. it's basicly set up for one timers with a screen and traffic.

the umbrella is ok for really skilled teams. but it leaves you flat footed if you turn the puck over because there's so much less cycling.

some teams try to setup a play where they have like a guys sneak back door and they want to try to get an easy goal taht way others just take a million low percentage shots and crash the net for a rebound any opinions on which works better?
