Graf's to XXX"S or 8K's.

Recommended Posts

I wore Graf 705's for 2 years and was happy then i outgrew them and switched to G5's which only lasted me a year. I have been looking at new skates for awhile. I am thinking of not getting Grafs this year because im tired of getting pucks in the skates and having such a soft boot. I wear a 10.0 R in my G5's and i am looking to switch to either a bauer vapor xxx or Reebok 8k. I really like the lightspeed holder in the xxx and the boot itself but they have durability issues according to the revews but what size would i be looking for in them? Also i like the RBK 8k but im not to fond of the holder. I am going in a couple weeks to try these on so i just wanted a heads up on sizes because im not to sure what to ask for.

I fit 9.5R in the graf 705 and a 9.5D in the vapor xxx. The boot of the xxx is more shallow then the 705 which is good for me because the 705s were a bit deep fitting.

The EPP in the side panels of the 8k will help with the pain of blocked shots. You might want to think about trying Kors as well.

If you are a 10R in a G3 than you will be either a 9.5D or 9.0D in a Bauer. Grafs are generally 1 size smaller than your dress shoes size and Bauer 1.5 or 2. But these are general guidelines. As you said you need to try them on.

I would stay away from Bauer XXX's because of the durability issue of the boot. They won't last you very long and of course when the boot softens you'll really feel it when you take a shot in the foot. The only way Nike/Bauer will deal with the durabilty issue is if their competition takes away a share of their skate market. In my opinion get the Reebok 8K's. They have the boot armour and are probably a more durable skate and they are a great quality product to date. The E-Blade really isn't that bad a holder and a substantial improvement over the old Pro-Lite blade. The Hockey Company has given me great quality and durable skates over the last few years. You may also wish to consider the new Pro Tacks which are a slightly different fit but very highly rated amoung consumers. Both skates will not be as deep a fit as your old G-5's but the comfort level is there and it is just a matter of adjustment.

How does the lace lock thing on the 8k's work? Is it more of an annoyance then it is a benefit to the skate?

it's like a metal and plastic buckle that the laces pass through. when you lock the lace, the metal buckle pinches the lace and keeps it from slipping. everyone i know who has the lace lock likes it, and none of them have an issue of it being an annoyance, since it adds more customizability when tightening the skate
