Helmet ventilation

Recommended Posts

I am in need of a new helmet. I have a CCM 452 tack helmet. I got it second hand but its really too small even with it fully adjusted out.

I'd like to get a helmet with better ventilation. Its got front end vents but I don't think the air can flow through the helmet very well in this helmet.

Any suggestions? I'd like to keep it less than $100

Mission Intake is designed around ventilation, and it will retail at $99 USD.

Ya that or the Bauer 8000 would be your best bet.

If you wanted an 8000, i have one used for a season, excellent shape, only asking $90?

I really llike the ventilation of the Jofa 690. Really comfy and keeps me cool when I ref or play. I am interested in trying an Intake though.

The only problem with the Jofa 690 was the type of cusion they had in it...didn't feel good with my head

I have the older style it's like the Itech HC100 but the comfort foam is a little thicker.

I was finding a new helmet, tried on the Itech HC(which ever were the top of the lines when the 8000 was new), and the 8000 and the Jofa.

THe gel seems not to grab my hair and rip it out while playing..

The Intake has the same foam as the newer style 690.

I will agree with Chadd that the Jofa 690 is a great helmet as far as ventilation goes. I have the new style 690 and not only is it light but it also keeps my head pretty cool.

My second choice would be the the Itech HC100 which you can find for a good price these days. As other haves indicated, the Mission Intake has the same back section as the HC100. Only the front of the Intake is different. Should that make the Intake $100 when you can get the HC100 for half the price?

I use both the Jofa 690 and Itech HC100 helmets regularly and they are both great at allowing air to flow through them. I had the 8000 before and although it fit great it was a little heavier than I cared for. Additionally I didn't see any great advantages in their air flow system of the Bauer 8000 that would make me choose it over the others.

I have the RBK 8k, but if the 6k has the same ventilation as someone said, I would recommend it.

As far as head exchange goes I wear an underarmor skull cap, and keep my hair fairly short. This seems to help keep me cool up top. I got carried away at my last trip to the barber and all but had my head buzzed. My wife was not too happy, but it grows back thankfully. I have to admit that there are times when I kinda wish I was balding so I would have to worry about hair care from time to time.

What kind of foam is that? The same foam that is in the HC95? In a recent issue of the Hockey News, there's a story on Zetterberg and in the close up of him, he's wearing a Mission Intake with the type of foam in the HC95 -

That's only available to pros. I don't have a pic of the internal padding on the new 690 or Intake, I'm not sure if it's in the catlog or not.

Damn....I just don't think I could get used to any other type of foam....I guess I'll just end up getting a new HH4000. Oh well.

Thanks!
