analog999 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2006 Did anyone see the guy run up on stage while the IOC president was giving his speech? My god. I can't believe Golden Palace would tarnish this event. I expect them to do lots of other crazy things, but the Olympics? I hope that guy goes to jail for a long time, and whichever company is hosting GP's servers should be kicked out of the olympics until they shut the down.I know there was guy previously who dove off one of the diving boards, but jesus christ, they need to get serious about shutting this place down from doing these stupid things. stock07 1 Report post Posted February 27, 2006 If they could advertise normally, they wouldn't feel the need to go to these extremes. Evidently the security wasn't as good as it should have been. Id say thats the bigger issue here, How does someone sneak through all that "security", makes me feel safe. RIGHT....Who really cares the Olympics were horriable this year...The most exciting moment I saw through the whole thing, were the closing ceremonies themselves....I know this has been discussed somewhere in another thread, but the Olympics have just lost alot of luster and pride, Thank your over paid PRO'S for that.....Not hockey of course...but the other big sports B-ball, Baseball, Football.... analog999 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2006 I think they could afford to advertise normally, but this kind of crap is a lot cheaper and gets a lot more attention. The IOC is pretty powerful - I bet they could put a stop to them if they really wanted to.

I know there are CRTC Regulations, and I'm sure there are FCC regs about advertising Gambling Sites/Services...that is why you see "this is not a gambling site" on the partypoker.com...fulltilt.com etc....ads.So, it's not that they can't advertise, money wise...they CAN'T advertise legally. analog999 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2006 There are ways of advertising without advertising on TV. Vegas strip casinos always seem to be full and how often do you see an ad for the Bellagio, Mirage, MGM, etc?BTW, I hear radio ads all the time for gambling casinos in our area. I think I have even seen, hell, I KNOW I have seen ads for casinos in Washington state on TV.

teamriot38 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2006 A guy around here put Golden Palace on his forehead for a month for a couple grand. It's not Golden Palace's fault. I think people approach them and say they'll do retarded things for money and Golden Palace says "What the Hell?" What's the worst that happens? If it only takes one retard to get as much advertisement as a super bowl commercial, why not?
analog999 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2006 That stuff doesn't bother me. It's the interrupting of events that pisses me off. It's bad enough if they have someone streak a football game, but the Olympics?

mik3 1 Report post Posted February 27, 2006 Lets not act like the winter olympics is some sacred event though that has a level of morality that should be respected.Look around, it might as well be billed as the Nike Winter Olympics. Not to mention just about every olympic bid over the last few years has had some sort of local or world wide scandal attached to it.Hats off to the goldenpalace guys for doing yet another thing to get their name out there. donkey87 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2006 Lets not act like the winter olympics is some sacred event though that has a level of morality that should be respected. Exactly. How serious can an event be if it features clowns and people dancing to YMCA. GoldenPalace.com just picked up a bunch of free advertising. Nobody got hurt, so this shouldn't be a big deal. analog999 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2006 That isn't the point. The point is it isn't their event and they are being rude by interrupting them. Imagine if you were watching your favorite team playing in the Stanley Cup finals and someone jumped onto the ice and grabbed the puck before it went into the net, stopping your team from winning. But not only was it just a fan, he was wearing a GoldenPalace.com t-shirt. How upset would you be? Just because you don't like the winter olympics, or the closing ceremonies, doesn't mean that it doesn't mean anything to anyone else. No ethical or normal business would do this crap.Would you see "Trump Casino" on a t-shirt of a guy doing that? No. Would you see "Macy's" or "Target" on their t-shirts? No... GoldenPalace is a joke. Not to mention just about every olympic bid over the last few years has had some sort of local or world wide scandal attached to it.Hats off to the goldenpalace guys for doing yet another thing to get their name out there. AMEN....Im glad someone else is seeing the bigger picture here....The Olympics are a joke these days...There is no pride felt for your country by the citizens, its all about the money just like anything else in the world today....For example, having to cover up logos because that particuler company or player isent paying to advertise their product...Personally I like to see those underdog stories, the ones where some athlete has been training all their life to get a shot in the olympics and wins the gold. I feel pride for that person to know they sacrificed to reach their goal and made it. But the olympics as a whole just dosent have that "feel" anymore, the media tries its best to pump it up so that it seems like the greatest sports spectacale ever, but for me it just isent. I dont know if anyone saw the segment on ESPN sportscenter about the autistic kid who was his high school teams manager who got to play in his teams final game of his senior year, he scored 20pts. in 4:30 minutes...Thats a moment he and others will remeber for the rest of their lives...That story to me is better than anything the olympics could produce this year or for the last several olympics...As for Goldenpalace.com I agree with you as well, hats off to them..They have found a unique way to market their product and it gets attention, thats the whole goal of marketing a product right? What I find disturbing is how easy they seem to do it at major events...Where is this tight security thats suppose to be in place?..If some joker like that can get through, whats to stop someone else who wants to run up into a major event and try and hurt people, ie: The Atlanta Olympics? donkey87 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2006 Interrupting a sporting event is different than running across a stage during a speech. If that guy had done this during one of the actual events, I would be pissed. But he did it during a speech. It's not like he ran up a tackled the guy, he just ran across the stage. I think some people are overreacting. NBC didn't even televise it when it happened, they went back and showed a replay.

That is not a very good example, the two events are totally diffrent...Whenever the goldenpalace person strikes, it is not at a key moment of a game nor has it affected the outcome of it...Not at the soccer games they have crashed, not at the gold events they have crashed, none of them...They showed up during a speech, big deal no one was hurt, nothing was affected....A free market and capatalisim which is what this country and others are based on really has no rules...Its dog eat dog...The Macy's and Targets dont "stoop" to advertise in these extreme manner's because they are cutting their cost by getting there products made in foreign countries by sweat shop workers....So which is worse, crashing events that dont make a diffrence or operating sweat shops? Tough choice I know.....
jjtt99 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2006 The sad part is it's only a matter of time before one of these "pranksters" get killed by a security person thinking the risk was greater than what it actually was.The Olympics could have been a prime example of that. analog999 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2006 Again, you guys are missing the point. First off, the guy didn't just run across the stage, he ran up and grabbed one of the mics, knocking it down. If there hadn't been a second mic, it would have really affected the speech. Regardless if it is a speech, a sporting event (at whatever time) or ANY event where they are being disruptive, it is WRONG. If they came to your wedding or what about if some dude streaked naked except for the GP T-shirt at your mother's funeral... would that be OK? No, it wouldn't be. If they really want to get the free attention, all they have to do is buy 100's or nearly ALL the seats at a sporting event and make people wear their t-shirts to get a free or discounted ticket. It could have a major effect without the rudeness. But instead they're just jerks.
Jason Harris 31 Report post Posted February 28, 2006 I'd bet good money that the gate crasher broke the law by trespassing. The problem I have with tipping our hats to the "creativity" of companies like this is most of us could be significantly more creative if we were willing to break laws. Obviously, one's options are more limited when adhering to the norms of society, let alone its laws.
