Are the bauer 5000 gloves anywhere as high performing as the bauer XX's as im deciding between the two and there seems to be a quite a price difference.

I have the 5000s and I love them. I am a defensemen and I am not very worried about mobility. From what I have gathered the XX and XXX are built for feel and mobility. The 5000s have plastic inserts everywhere and I am pretty sure the XX do aswell. The major difference is the flex lock thumb on the XX because it moves but the 5000s have a solid plastic piece in the thumb. If you are going for protection I would say the 5000s and if you want maximum mobility I would say go with the XX. I personally wouldn't switch because of how comfortable I think the 5000s are.

Just thought that I would add as well that if you are refering to the ones on hockeygiant.com (I believe), they are also pro-stock which means that you will get a TON more protection with the 5000. Over all, I believe the 5000 is a hell of a better glove than the XX and XXX, but if you get hard from all the hype of how light the Vapors are then get the Vapors. If you are going through your LHS (recommended) then get what feels best for you and what suits your needs....protection and mobility vs. light weight and increased mobility.

I tried both before buying and I came back to XX. the weight and comfort is what made me buy those ones. I dunno about the performance being the same though. but I can say, even though I play stay at home D, the feeling with the stick and puck hasn't been matched by all other gloves I've worn before.

yeah, their pricey...but well worth the $$$ you'll be spending

Im looking for a loose fitting glove which hopfully the palms wont go crusty so soon.

the XX are more of a snug fit. go with 5000 for looser fit

I looked around and has anyone seen the 5000 in black 15" in a decent price with reliable shipping?

Get the 5000's, the XX lack protection. You can't play if you're injured, period.

i also have 5000s and the amount of protection is unreal.

foams

XX/XXX daul density

5000 triple denitsy + plastic inserts EVERYWHERE

mine have a daul layer daura soft palm

the fit is just a little tighter than my eagles

hockeygiant.com has them for 79.99 plus shipping.

you end up saving money and get a better protected glove. go for the 5000s

Just a little off topic.

Does anyone know for sure, if NBH is going to discontinue this glove or do they have another "Classic" look coming out?

i have the pro stock 5000's and love them. they are pretty soft in the palm area and the rest of the glove has good protection. i like my gloves pretty loose too and they aren't tight at all.

not sure if this thread is dead, but I thought I'd weigh in since I used 16" Bauer 5000s until a month ago when I switched to Vapor XXs. Both are excellent gloves, and like others are saying, the 5000s are a big (esp. since I went way overboard and bought a 16" pair. They were extremely protective, but I felt like I had hands of stone. In a desperate effort to keep them from getting stinky I'd dry them after every skate by putting them over one of the forced air heat ducts in my house-- which I'm sure my girlfriend loved-- and then it would take me ten minutes on the ice to get the leather in the palms to soften up.

The Vapor XX's, on the other hand felt broken in right away and the stretch palms are amazing. They're synthetic so the stink factor is less, too. I recently had my thumb bent back, not too severely, but enough to make me think about the protection I gave up switching to the Vapors. I took a look at the Vapor XXXs in my lhs and they don't have the stretch palms, so if that's an important feature, as it was to me, then the xxxs don't make sense. So far I have to say I prefer the Vapor XXs to the 5000s.
