Need new shins and shoulders

Recommended Posts

playing jr a next year and need some new shoulder pads and shin pads. I am using the bauer 2000 supremes now and TPS contour shins. Is is just me or are the 2000 and the new 4000's the same. They are just different colors it seems. Im thinking of getting either another pair of 2000's or 6000's, i cant find any 6000's in the hockey shops so i will have to order online does anyone have them? Also shins im looking at the reebok 6k's. How are they? I need some light shin pads.

I'm using Bauer 8000 shins and find them to be decent. Before that I had 6000's and only got 3/4 of a season out of them before the kneecap cracked. I'm seeing the prices go down on the 8000 gear. Maybe worth a try.

If you are going to play Junior you need pretty good protection. I would look into the 6k or higher model RBKs or the new Stealth Easton protective.

id say 7k shin and 5030 shoulders if your a forward if your not then a set of 6k or 7k shoulders. reason why i said 5030 shoulders for a forward there more mobile and if your playing Jr A then you know how to give and receieve a hit

I've heard good things about the high-end Nike line as well. They seem to be slimmer than Jofa/RBKs which I hear have a bulky feel to them.

who told you that and are talking about shin pads or shoulder pads?

Talking about the shins. Sorry, I can't back up my references as being anything more than anecdotal. They're just a few things I recalled reading on some online reviews and somewhere on this board, I think.

I know someone who wanted the 8Ks and settled on the V14s. I think he's okay with what he ended up with, but I think he still prefers the 8Ks.

From what I've seen, the Nike shoulder pads look pretty unbulky. I can't remember whether or not I've actually worn them though.

Thanks for all of the posts. I went ahead and ordered the 6k reebok shinpads for $55 from epuck.com and picked up some bauer 2000 shoulder pads, the same ones I have now just a few sizes bigger, i found them clearence for $20! So $85 for shins and shoulders pretty good deal

i disagree and talking from experience i would say that jofa/rbk shins are some of the best fitting and non bulky out there, they contour to the shape of you leg and as long as youre fitted right there should be no problem with bulk and shin pads, they are designed to hug the leg, the only bulky-ness issue would probably be that of a ill fitting pad hitting the pant or skate, and as far as Jr A goes i dont think high end jofa equipment would be too bulky, as the majority of NHL'ers wear jofa/rbk

and hock20, you have to try out for Jr A teams

That's great news. I'm actually thinking about placing an order for some RBK shins tomorrow. Personally, I thought they suited me better than the Nikes.

yeah i agree, the 7k shins may look bulky cause of the traditional fit, but once you put these bad boys on, they just suck right onto your shins. no movement whatsoever!

I actually just switched from the 2000's into the Easton Synergy 900's. I took a slapshot the first night I wore them and they blew the Bauer's away. I could barely feel the shot and they are so much lighter. They do ride into the front of your ankle a bit but, break in within a couple hours and you do not notice anymore. I have since tried out a pair of the Reeboks(forgot 1 pad for a game) and the Easton's seem to give a lot more movability.

what is the difference between the 7k and 6k? I bought the 6k because i found them for $54 which seemed like a steal. Are there any noticable differences?

I have the Synergy shin pads and they are the best I've ever owned. The calf protector isn't a wrap around, it has it's own piece. Haven't felt a shot yet.
