Emigrating Can/USA to work

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

i am planning to leave Germany to work a year in a foreign and english speaking country to improve my english skills.

Obviously i would LOVE to work with something related to icehockey, but that is not a requirement.

But lets do it like that.. do you know where i _could_ work then?

Maybe some brands or sectors?

Thanks.

Since I don't work in hockey I can't get you the job you want...but I highly recommend the SW Michigan area. That way you can bring some good German beer!!

Now, if you change your mind about working in hockey and want free cable...talk to me.

;)

I have to render civilian national service after i finished school for about 9 months and then i have to opportunity to go overseas.

IF i would go to the USA/CAN i have to work somewhere to earn money, does anyone know where i could work or could anyone provide me a job in a hockeyrelated scene?

I will offer free room and board if you handle any stick/equipment issues I have. You can even hang out with my mum and talk about Sweden together.

You can get a job in my shop and talk to Nicklas Lidstrom about Sweden while me and Hobbes_86 drink your German beer and me and dangledanglechamp dip your Swedish snus.

Beware... American girls are bitches.

Work on your pickup lines. Like... "Hey baby, did you wash your pants in Windex window cleaner? Because I can see myself in them."

That'll get you a date every time.

I would start looking at options now. The H1-B is a student visa, for 3 years, which can be extended to 6 years. If you need it in a hurry, it can be expedited for $1000.

However its an employer sponsored visa, so you need a job before you get here, and you also have to have a degree.

I arrived here in April 2000 on a Q-2 visa (also known as the Walsh visa). It was a visa that offered work to people in northern ireland and the border counties who were directly affected by the troubles in the north.

Then my employer sponsored me on a H1-B, and the greencard. My petition for the greencard went in on October 2001 and was only approved on Feb 10th 2006, so I had to extend my H1-B for the time.

If you want to come here, and legally, then get started now, there is so much red tape and shennanigans to go through that the 9 months civilian service will be over before you get approved

Yeah, thats right, i have to start now, but its actually a bit hard to find a job. Even when you are not there physically.

First i have to check what i want to study and which university offers this study. Its a pretty big step and im not sure if i can take the risk.

At least, i would try it. Thats the only way i can test it (at least i think so).

Ah, you are coming here to study. Remember, if you are on a student visa, you are legally not allowed to work more than 20 hours a week, even if you are a part time student, so check your finances etc too

Then a h1-B is out, you need to look to see what else is available
