Oil-Canuck Shootout

I'm watching the Oilers-Canucks game and they were doing the stick measurments before the shootout...the ref was doing the Oilers' sticks, Hemsky, Peca, but when he got to Ryan Smyth the ref just looked at blade and said OK. Haha, that thing is straight as a ruler. Guess the ref wasn't even gonna waste his time.

Anyone know if Smyth's pattern is the same as Gretzky's Pro? They look similar in shape.

I have to agree with you Chadd. As much as I like Chicken Parm, he's turning into a homer for Oil TV. He kept saying that the review was stupid, carrying on too long, ruining the moment, the Oilers should be upset, yadda, yadda, yadda...but what he doesn't realize is that the Oilers got a goal out of it. If they didn't review, the ref's call was no-goal on the spot. So much for complaining about it, it got them a damn goal didn't it.

So does this open up the discussion that next year they should add shoot outs to the playoffs? I have to admit I was skepticle of them at first, but now when we get to the 4 minute mark of OT I find myself hoping it will remain a tie so the one-on-ones can begin.

Having said that, come playoffs, I would prefer for the boys to play for as long as it takes.

Shootouts in regular season -- Yes.

Shootouts for playoffs -- No.

Why the hell would the NHL even consider making the shootouts happen in the playoffs? Playoff OT hockey is the best hockey around, no need for the bells and whistles.

That said, I'm starting to warm up to the idea of taking out regular-season OT and just going to 5 shooters.
