Yeah it was a sweet hit and totally clean, contrary to Keith Jones' opinion.

That was my take as well.

it looks like whoever hit him got his elbow up..

yes, on the follow-through. The hit itself was bicep to face. I belive it was Dustin Brown.

I saw it on Center Ice, they slowed it down and it actually looked the hit was done with the front of his left shoulder/bicep area. His elbow was flared out but did not make contact, at all. I thought the hit was great. Since Cooke won't ever fight, this is about the only way a team can get back at him for all of the little agitative things he does.

ok, i believe you, in slow motion it looks like he got the elbow up.. but on most hits your elbow comes up in the follow through..

There is a good picture in today's Vancouver Province newspaper and definitely the shoulder hit Cooke in the face.

Ouch.

On this note, who saw Peca absolutely lay out Kesler in the oil/canucks game (can't remember if it was 2 or 3..)? That was a gigantic hit..

Only thing illegal looking about that is that Cooke didn't have the puck. Brown poked it past him then levelled him - therefore it's interference.

That said, it's not that clear at the start of the clip, did Cooke touch it?

Looked like Cooke was bracing for the hit. He knew contact was coming. Brown just got himself ready for it and forgot about the puck.

The hit itself on cooke looked pretty clean. It was borderline interference if you look at where the puck was, but a real nice delivery on the hit by brown regardless. Apparently he was yapping at him after "how's your fucking head now cookie". I'm not such a fan of beaking an injured player off...but what are you going to do about it.

The Peca hit on Kesler wasn't actually much of a hit. If Kesler hadn't have gotten down to the ice it would've been devastating, but as it was Peca missed him for the most part.

Finally, the Ruutu hit was definitely dirty. I just don't know why the guy continues to throw unncessary hits like that. He had every chance to let up and not hit him, it's like he has little periods where he just stops thinking. Pretty frustrating when he consistently throws dirty shots like that on guys.

As fas as it being interference , isnt the fact that Brown touched the puck nullify any inteference call? As far as who was beaking at Cooke it definitely wasnt Brown. Hes a quiet kid who hits and then turns and skates away. Popular opinion is that it was Avery who was doing the talking as him and cooke apparently dont like each other and its has gone on for a while.

This discussion came up last night after one of my own hockey games. We've seen plays similar to the cooke one, where the puck is right in the vicinity of the player who gets hit (in cookes case it really was right beside him) even if it's only for an instant as the puck goes cruising by. Sometimes it seems they'll call the interference, other times not. It would be interesting to know what the official rule pertaining to that type of play is.

Regarding the mouthing off, I had just heard what was said from a friend and I would assume he thought it was brown since he was the one who delivered the hit. It certainly does seem more likely that it would be a guy like Avery.

Thats why I was asking. Never really see this type of play. In the clip they show when its being said the camera is on Brown and his lips arent moving. Sounds like Avery but unless he fesses up we'll never know.
