Aww the poor alcoholic McCarty.. I don't feel sorry for the guy and im a die hard Wings fan. He had about 4 years of being overpaid by the Wings, on top of the other 5 he played in the NHL with the Wings. Sure he was a big part of the Cup teams but he was a shell of himself in his later years with the club.

$6 mill in gambling debts, acohol addiction, I don't care how much money he donated to charity hes not exactly a great guy. And anyone who thinks Grinder made him money your wrong, it actually cost him money to keep it running.

Things are not gonna get any better either, hes on his last NHL contract, he may get an AHL contract next time if hes lucky. Failure at life.

I just don't get where you come off calling him a "failure at life". You've never met the guy, you don't know him, how can you be such a dick to him? Its funny that he was one of the most popular players in Detroit by the fans, and his teammates loved him. Obviously he has some issues that he needs to deal with. He could piss on my mother and I'll still love him for this turtle.jpg

A mistake? :lol: Its not like he brought in $6 mill to the roulette table and bet it all on red. The guy made ALOT of mistakes in his life and if another NHL team gives him a shot they're crazy, I wonder if they will garnish his NHL wages :lol:

It's probable safe to assume that McCarty wasn't off blowing all the cash while his kids lived in government housing and his wife was barefoot in the kitchen and just took the kids to church on sundays...

Most likely they had a lifestyle beyond their means, and yes im sure his alchoholism and gambleing and band played into it, and the private schools for the kids and the big fancy house and the cars and clothes and jewerly etc.

Look we have like 1000 words in two articles to look at, maybe thats not quite enough to evaluate the man as a father/husband - hell even as a venture capitalist.

whatever.

fileing bankrupcy sucks, and it sucks for everyone, from the most undeserving to the toatlly had it comming.

and besides he did totaly kick the hell out of claude lemieux

I saw that earlier. I'm thinking it'd be a really classy move by Illitch to buy at least one of the rings and give it back to him.

At that point it would be an asset again and have to be resold if I'm not mistaken.

Unless Illitch bought it and waited for the Bankruptcy to end, then give it back to him...it would only be an asset as long as he was in bankruptcy. (I think)

None of us here know enough of the truth to know whether he's irresponsible, sick, unlucky or whatever.

We know that a lot of people enjoyed his style of play, while others thought he was a decent guy based on his interviews. Maybe you'd meet him at a restaurant and think, "What a cool guy!" Or maybe you'd meet him at a bar and think, "What a f*@king prick!" Or maybe you'd meet him at the casino and think, "Geez, guy, WALK away!" Or maybe you'd see him scamming on two women while you knew he was married and think, "What a loser!" Or maybe that would cause you to think, "Man, he's my hero!" All we know is he is famous, plays an exciting style of hockey and has been irresponsible with money and alcohol.

Regarding divorce settlements, I've had a few friends that have been totally screwed to the point of having to spend thousands defending themselves against obvious fabrications in the hopes of winning small measures of custody. The laws probably are weighted too heavily towards wives, but I think it's because the pendulum may have swung too far in response to men of 60-80 years ago who would throw their families on the street.
