Souray

Recommended Posts

I wouldn't go so far as to call Souray the "Worst D-man in the League" Far from the worst IMO. He's a top 4 guy on almost any team in the league.

...the problem is he is either really, really good...or really, really bad. There doesn't seem to be any middle ground.

Phaneuf is good (heall YA he's good) but keep in mind that he can get wasted sometimes too. I've seen the highlight of Naslund coming in on the zone and putting him on his arse too many times already. The point is, both Sourray and Phaneuf are going to the playoffs, so maybe you can be a power D-man, role player and everything, and get burned every once in a while.

That being said... I would be worried if my +/- started going down the tube. I average like +3 a game and I don't consider myself a good D-man.

Here is what Michel Bergeron and Michel Villeneuve told at the 110% show yesterday about Souray,

''find a defenseman in the NHL who can score 15 goals, who can defend his players by fighting, who can give big hits and who can play 20more minutes on the ice''

pronger, phaneuf, chara, mccabe, and normally jovo cop

If you have a real top-flite, #1 defenseman, do you really want him fighting every time something happens to another guy on the team?

markov and bouillon are better than souray, i think souray is the #4 defenceman for the canadien.

2 years a go, souray had a freakin good season,he even got choose to go to the all-star.

Problem is,like somebody say it, he can be very good or very bad, rare souray will just be in the midle!

Naslund can put any one on their ass, he's that good, so that's not saying much. This is Danny Briere, who's probably half as good as Naslund, not trying to take anything away from Briere, but Nazzy's just that good.

So in today's Souray hijinx he and someone else get beat 1-on-2 by Cullen. Malakhov is well worth this guy, even if they hadn't got a Cup that year.

Souray is too slow for the NHL. But he manages it well....he's a got a pretty long stick and scores random goals. That just made me realize how good the habs defense could be: Bouillon, Markov, Komisarek, and even Dandenault are 200% safer than him defensivly. Markov and Souray can help offensivly so you only need a safe 6th defensmen to complete it all.

But I love souray's personality. He never fears the medias and answers honestly every game. You should see him arrive at the bell center in his pimped up ford ranger. Quite a show :D

There are a few reasons why Montreal is keeping him around. And why he plays a TONNE of ice time. Remember this guy fought back from an injury to his wrist and developed one of the best shots in the league. That doesn't happen by accident. I think that shows he has some character, and I wouldn't be surprised if now he goes to work on his lateral agility/speed and quickness, and becomes dominant in that area as well.

Don't forget, he was the fastest accelerator on the ice last night for a moment (when he gaveaway the puck on a blueline pass). I'm not excusing him for getting undressed the times he did. I'm just saying he's a hockey player.
