Received my P4 2.66GHz Overclocked to 3.6GHz

Recommended Posts

So i just received my Overclocked P4 2.66GHz to 3.6GHz and i was asking myself a couple of questions. First of all, i'm waiting for my Thermaltake Xaser II 5 fans case, should be here in about 2 weeks + 1GB DDR 400 Crucial ram. I feel like trying this baby right now in my old cheap case + 256 mo ram pc133. Is this bad for my processor? Is it going to overheat in this case, even if i don't close it. Note that i have an Oversized Intel fan and a powerful High quality power supply to go with it. Thanks!!!

Wait for the other case and fans, you dont wanna blow a good processor because you were a little impatient, cooling is the biggest factor in runing stable overclocked systems

Agreed. Overclocking does cause the CPU to run hotter and could potentially shorten the life of the CPU. Cooling is a major factor in keeping that puppy going.

BTW: That heat sink looks nice all circular looking... :D

yeah i would wait for the case to make sure you have enough cooling.

looks like the p4 3.6 heatsink/fan. we have a few of those machines here at work. the attachments to the motherboard are a pain in the ass. i prefer the old style...

I also agree... wait for the fans.

And get some more RAM.

yeah, only 1 gig of ram? My crappy little powerbook has 2 gigs. I do do mad gaming on my mac though

Yea thx....i'll just look at it for 2 weeks then.... <_<

1 gig of RAM is not that bad, i'll wait a little more before buying another bar. ($$!)

Ram is cheap, you can get a gig of ram for under 150. I am assuming your doing some gaming if your overclocking your processesor that much... youll need the ream

Thats one hell of an overclock. I also agree with everyone else you should wait for your new case. Plus it wouldn't work with your old RAM setup to begin with, so as long as you have to wait for your RAM no need to take chances ;)

I've got a system with a stock P IV 3.73GHz and I'm scared to overclock it. I just don't want anything bad to happen.

Yea, it's a pretty big Overclock but the guy selling this seemed very professional to me, he was answering my questions and helping me about the stability of the system.

I have stress tested the cpu and motherboard at 3660ghz for over 3 days (72 hours) straight at 100% cpu utilization and not one single error was reported by the stress test applications. Stress test applications include: prime95, sandra sys soft, 3dmark running in loop. After the stress tests, I clocked the cpu 60mhz lower, and set it at 3.6ghz to give it a margin of safety. I guarantee the system running at 3.6ghz to be 100% stable.

I offer 2 yr warranty for the CPU and the motherboard has 3 yr warranty from Asus.

I was tired of this old system and tired of playing Counter-Strike or day of defeat so i decided to make myself a new system at a low price! What should i try next?

Call of duty 2? Battlefield 2? Farcry? Counter-Strike source? :o
