I'm pretty sure the broadcasters said during the game that he custom painted those himself, and I think they said he was told to do it to hide the manufacturer but I could be wrong on that second point.

That makes me appreciate that he would do that, because it takes guts to modify your equipment--though I know it's not all that rare to modify something. Someone else told me they thought he just used whiteout or something on them too, so that's probably true. I only caught the third period of the USA/Russia game and I was pissed at the stupidity of the anouncers so if they talked about it during that period I turned down the volume anyway.

Earlier in the tournament they were all black, so he's all over the place. It'd be fun to sit down with him and talk about his skates (if he knew English, because I only know "pevah" in Russian). It's like there's a mythical buzz about them.

In Lemtyugov's pics with CSKA he's got white 707's with black side panels--nothing too fancy. I like the all white look still.
