Protective skates

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering what are considered the most protective skates for a forward. I am feeling every puck on my RBKs. All the shots off my skates are killing me. I know hockey has injuries but some of us beer leaguers gotta make it to work in the morning.

I have been using Easton 1300c skates for almost a year getting hit in the skate basically everywhere with every type of shot including slap shots and haven't felt a thing. With the CCM skates i had last season even getting hit in the blade holder with a pass caused a bit of pain.

8090s are tanks and stiff as hell, I never got hurt in them. The synergys would also be a good bet, my brothers old 900s were just as stiff as most other companies top end skates. What RBKs are you currently using? My brothers in the 8Ks and he says hes never felt any pain after blocking shots.

Maybe it was just My skates :( felt like the holder was bending to the side and it always hurt the bottom of my foot

not sure what to recommend...but i can tell you to avoid graf 700 series skates if protection is a significant concern.

a week ago, i got hit in the tongue of the left skate (graf 703) with a weak slapshot and it was pretty damn painful. i got off the ice, had a beer, and got asked to play in the next game. then i took another slapshot to the outside of my other fore-foot...my toes and heel are bruised, and about half my foot turned yellow. i could hardly walk for a couple days. at least it took my mind off my other foot :x

i bought a pair of synergy 700's a few days later and have skated in them 4 times now...haven't taken any shots yet though to comment on how protective they are. i did swap the holder for a pitch3 though :]

Higher end skates equals more protection, what model RBK:s do you use? If they are a lower or mid model, then the lack of protection.

Anything Easton makes with the Hyperlite quarters. The most protective thing on the market. That includes the Easton 700's all the way up to the 1500C,s. Also the aforementioned Kor Shift skates. The new Pro Armour I and II skates by CCM/Reebok are also good.

Lets face it.. pretty much any high-end skate is going to give you ample protection. Go try them on.. get a feel for them and make a choice for yourself.

I have the 4ks from RBK... I amwaitng for easton 1500cs or the NBH one90s hit the stores so I can upgrade my skates. I bought my RBKs thinking I was only going to play once a week, but now I play multiple times a week and it is time for an upgrade.

well in mostly any skates a shot to the side of the foot will hurt and also a hit on the tongue, its just a part of hockey taking shots too the foot. ive taken bunch of shots but i try and square up to the shooter not turn to the side

Isn't there skate guards available just like Pronger has...?

I've taken two shots off my Bauer 8000...both times they stung...

Yeah I wear the bauer 7000s and I got hit on the top of the foot by a slapper a few weeks ago. I still feel it sometimes when I put on a pair of shoes, but thats a part of the game! I actually have grow to like getting hit in the foot. MMMMMM nothing better if you ask me! Try taking it in the balls once. This way every time you get it in the foot you will be thankful that it wasnt in the nuts! Thats the way I look at it now a days. :P

i haven't had an issue with my vector pro's and never, ever had an issue with my bauer vapor 10's (not X and they were pro customs). Actually, ever since I started doing my shin guards under the tongue rather than over I haven't had any problems as well...

I guess just to reitterate whats been mentioned before but hte Kor's with the composite boot or the new easton's 1500C, 1200C, or 800C all have a composite liner which will def help with protection.

Holdout a month and get the Synergy 1500's. I haven't felt a thing in them. And they say they fixed the problems with the toe caps on the 1300's.

Or go with the Kor's.

If holding out tho...wait for the Kor Shift 2's, I think the impovements are going to be huge compared to the shift 1

the Kor Shift 2 is not a replacement to the Shift 1. it is a different fitting skate from what i have read. Kor will still be making Shift 1.
