How long will a godd set of equipment last?

Recommended Posts

Right now I have a good set of Jofa protective gear. 9060 shins, 9144 elbows and 9400 shoulders. I'm also using a CCM 652 helmet, 692 pants, and 892 gloves. Playing once or twice per week, whats a ball park figure on how long that level of equipment should last before I have to replace?

it'll last until it's no longer wearable. there's no set time frame, because how you treat your equipment will be the determining factor. most of my gear has lasted me for ages, and i've only had to replace it when i've outgrown it. from my experiences, shin pads and gloves are usually the first things to go. i've cracked many shin pads from blocking shots, and torn many holes in gloves from just continued use.

My protective gear has lasted me 3 good years of playing about 3-4 times a week during the winter and about 1-2 times in the summer. Helmet I replaced after a year because the padding had gone hard, and gloves lasted me about 2 seasons.

If you take care of your gear, it will take care of you, and for a long long time. I have had my gear for a long time....for about 3 years now. But either way, just take care of it and it should last quite a while.

Shoulder pads, skates and helmets usually last the longest. Shins tend to crack after maximum two seasons, gloves depend so much on how you treat them.

I find shorts last me 2 seasons max before they're all torn up.

As has been stated, the biggest factor on equipment life is YOU. If you take good care, repair as needed and let it dry out after use your equipment will last a long time.

The most important thing:

LET IT DRY OUT COMPLETLY AFTER USE!!!!!

LET IT DRY OUT COMPLETLY AFTER USE!!!!!

LET IT DRY OUT COMPLETLY AFTER USE!!!!!

Especially true on gloves and skates!!!

This is also a good argument for buying the best you can afford-it will last longer than cheapo stuff

Example-my shoulder pads are a pair of CCM Supras that are close to 15 years old and still are in great shape-I've restitched them as needed and added a couple of hard plates but they still are very solid and I wouldnt hesitate to use them in full contact ( I play Beer Leagues now)

Man, ya'll are hard on your equipment. I played w/ the same gear all through college, skates dating back to high school, and never had to replace any of it (other than sticks). It may have a funk to it and a few minor repairs (sewing holes, replacing rusted screws, etc.), but functionally it is still in good working order.

The only reasons that I'm replacing stuff now is because I can now afford it, and the new technology is lighter, more protective and provides better maneuverability than my old stuff. Playing once or twice a week I would say, as long as you take care of it, it will last a good 5+ years.

5-6 years on average... assuming you take decent care of your equipment...

average.. gloves might go in 3 years.. but your pants might last 7...

my tackla pants are going on 20 yrs... still in excellent condition...

of my current equipment, most are 4+ years... except for helmet, visor and gloves

everything is still in great condition, and would expect them to last for at least another 2 years..

i play 2-3 times a week all year round...

Pull the footbeds out of your skates to dry. Empty the bag of all gear every time. It doesn't matter how many beers you've had after the game, just do it before you pass out.
