Pet peeve: Kid's feet are getting bigger (average has increased substantially over last decade)

Oh happy day when the feet stop growing!!

Now, from what I know feet, hands and the head are the first to be done growing. Boys feet usually stop growing at 13-15. Girls at 11-13. please correct me if I'm wrong.

That's correct... at 14, my daughter's skates still fit into 2nd season...but need to replace them with a much better pair than the mid level skate she's on now as it has "slightly more stiffness than her bedroom slipper"

Yeah, I supose as man gets bigger the feet also gets bigger over time?! I have a 13 year old son who's in a size 8.5 CCM 852 Tacks (last season), skating 5-6 times a week. I usually buy him new skates once a year, when I can get last years model for really cheap. I do hope he's feet are done growing sone. Altough he doesn't care that much about skates, as long as they are comfy he would pretty much be satesfied with any skate. There are not many kids on he's team wearing top of the line skates, maby one or two. There are no shortcuts to sucsess. Hard work is the only thing that pays of, not top of the line gear i.m.o.

Yes, you're right. It was funny for me because I had size 11 skates at 14 and I was 5'2. Feet stopped growing, height kept on going into my sophomore year in college.

I am forutnate enough to have parents that have a good income. They say I can get whatever I want when it comes to equipment. Playing midgit AA I do need stiff skates that will last me over more than half a season being on the ice 5-7 times a week. My 9ks are going strong for me for now. I dont see the need to pre-order equipment whan you dont even know how it fits. Im not one of the kids that buys equipment by looks, shure Weight's one90s are prob the nicest skates ive seen would I like to have them, yea. But I dont need skates and I dont know if they would fit me properly. I can suffer the waiting time and see if these skates fit me properly when they are avalible to try on for me.

But, when it comes to protective my parents want me to comftorable and protected, and I do not need the top of the line equipment. I would get the top of the line equipment but, im not like other kids. I actually research the selections in the peice of equipment that i need and I look for what will fit my needs and what will be comfortable. I dont go with what looks awsome, I buy with what fits me well.

Sticks are another thing though, my parents are fed up with buying me sticks and me breaking them quickly. Thats the only thing i need to buy on my own.

Sure, the latest and greatest of anything is always going be more expensive. And if the marketing department catches on to the hype and buzz that is growing for their product, it will surely be priced accordingly.

However, you have to be smart and realize that most new things aren't necessarily going to be light years ahead of the designs from just a year or two ago. I've seen kids skate like rocket-powered slot cars on Vapor XXs, so will they be left behind if they don't have One90s? I doubt it.

Imagine the horror two years from now, when all you can afford for your kid are those One90 models on clearance to make room for the next big thing. Think about it!

I am just wondering how the new supremes line is going to fare in terms of durability. And I do believe better skates HELPS one to become a better skater.

don't think you will find one90's on clearance, more and more, skate companies make them only on demand, thats why there always back order...

very few skates can be made "on-demand" and not have significant lag time

its a roll out..they will sell more One90's in Aug (pre-season) and Nov (holidays) then they will in June but the hype for the gear weenies (I'm one too) on this board is June 1..

the nice thing about the One90 is that it is made in Canada, but as DarkStar said it takes a while to build (see his post)

The more I talk to people at NBH, the more I find out that One90s will be hard to find in the marketplace. Demand is much greater than anticipated from dealers, X 3: Canada, US, and Europe!! The One90 will only be produced in St. Jerome. There are only so many hours in a day that the skates can be produced and they do go through at least 20 sets of hands from start to finish. The FLDs who booked One90s in January may not get the complete order shipped June 12 or by July 1. NBH will have to seed the product in different areas to get it to market but it will be impossible to get everyone everything they booked right away. You may have "pre-ordered" with 1800ScrewLHS but if he does not receive the size you pre-ordered you are SOL.

As for waiting for the One90s to go on close-out down the road, I find that good for a chuckle. If you want to wait that long for something in order to save $ or whatever your reason is, so be it. I just don't recommend holding your breath while waiting. That ship won't be sailing for a long time.

Durability? Don't hold me to it but a little birdie told me the skates are strong in terms of life. Time will tell but remember that this skate has been worked on for at least 2 + years before it is coming to the marketplace. I'm not saying it will be perfect but this not a work in progress. It is a finished product by the time it hits your LHS.

My point is not to wait two years to specifically get the One90, my point is that someone shouldn't complain about the pricing of the One90 or any other "top-of-the-line" 2006 skate when there are skates from recent model years that are available for much less cost and will perform extremely well, even for high-level skaters.

In other words, there are alternatives for you if you are price sensitive, but if you must have the latest and greatest, then be ready to pay for it and don't whine about it.

Whilst on the subject of the One90, Nikebauer.com's updated and the videos for the One90 are pretty cool. Anyone else seen them?
