Reebok 8K Pants

Recommended Posts

This isn't a review but after not finding as much info as I wanted to on these pants I decided I'd write a little about my impressions of the pants incase there is anyone else out there interested in these pants. After trying on a few different pants I've ended up with a pair of small Reebok 8K pants.

Coming from a Medium size pair of Mission M1's I must say these pants are completely different. The first thing I noticed was how fitted these pants are. Coming from my M1's to the 8K's was like going from a giant pair of adult diapers to a pair of boxer briefs.

Now, I've never worn a girdle/shell system because I've always been told about issues with protection. I don't know if these pants qualify as a girdle and shell but after playing around with the positioning of the pads, I don't seem to have any unprotected areas. Another really nice feature of these pants are the two piece belt system. My previous M1's had a two belt but they didn't seem to work nearly as effectively as these.

In trying the pants on at home I can see there is going to be a change in the way I have to get dressed now. I don't want to be undoing the thigh velcro position straps everytime I get dressed. However, this is going to be a small price to pay if they perform how I think they will.

Tonight will be my first skate in them, and I can't wait to test them out.

Soooo! How where they? Always been a CCM/Reebok guy and I'm interested in how they perform and feel. My Jofa 9500's are getting old and tattered and I may be in the market for a new pair of breezers soon.

i love them. I have never felt so protected, with so much free movement as i have in these pants, definately worth the money.

I had a pair early last year...really tried to give them a chance...but the shell was giving me fits. There's even a review in the review section.

I bought a pair of 8k's as my first pair of hockey pants so I can't really compare them with anything else because they're all I've ever had. I love the way you can adjust the thigh pads to get them in just the right place. I also love the velcro on the thigh pads. I personally undo the velcoro each time I get dressed which makes getting dressed easy since I like to put my pants on first. By now my pants are about a year old so I've had to make some minor repairs, all my repairs have been to the seams that hold the thigh pads. Interestingly all my repairs are not in areas close to the velcro, go figure.

I can't compare the protection to anything else because I haven't used anything else. I've taken a few shots to the thigh and barely felt it. I've also fallen on my butt alot and really enjoyed the protection there. The hip protection is great because there were a few times where I fell at speed and went hip first into the boards, only the pride was injured.

When I first got my pants I was surprised at how stiff they felt. It never really occured to me that I would have to break those in. Needless to say the stiffness is gone now.

What's really great is as I said that I put my pants on first when getting dressed so I undo the thigh pads and move those out of the way while I put on my skates and shinpads. I've gotten quite a few funny looks from my team mates as they struggle into their gear while I ease into mine.

My 8Ks could easily be my favorite piece of gear. WAY more comfortable than my previous Z-airs and way more padded than my Tackla 900. The only thing I have against them is that the zipper seems to come undone while I'm skating, and in my league you have to have them zipped up.

I had the same problem with my pants (Supras). The velcro wore out and wouldn't stay together, everytime I moved my legs the zipper would go up. I attached a snap button on them and no more problems.

One thing I noticed on other pants with velcro legs. If the velcro doesn't stick and rubs alot on the opposite leg it wears down the fabricate causing it to fray.

well, I had my first skate the other day and I must say that they are way different then my previous M1's. Someone else said it but they are pretty stiff off the bat, although I'm sure I'll break them in after a few skates.

I did fall on my hip during the skate and I'm happy to say that I was very protected and didn't feel any discomfort.

I found them to be more restricting then the M1's, however I'm chalking that up to the M1's being too big for me, always having my zippers open and being 2-3 years broken in, in other words - completley opposite.

Mine were very stiff at first. They will break in. Worst case scenario take them to hockey wash and see if that helps.

Hi,

Just wondering if someone can help me out? I am looking at getting a pair of 8k pants (as there I've seen a good deal online, so they would be sight un-seen). I don't know what size I'd be though? I am like a 34" waist but am 6'1". From looking at the Hockey monkey sizing chart I am in between a medium and large. So anybody that has these pants, what do you think would be best?

I would go try the large. I wear a Medium 6k and am 5' 10" and a 30-31" waist. I have to really tighten the belts but find they are great for me. I think it is more important to look at your height rather than your waist. You wouldn't want to get a puck in between you pants and your shin pads.

Good luck and hope you like them. I doubt you'll be disappointed! :)

I am 5'11" w/ a 32-34" waist (depending on brand) and my 8k's and 9k's are both large and the both fit very well. You won't be disappointed with the pants as there is not a top end pant out there that is a flexible off the shelf as the 6k, 8k, and 9k in my opinion.

And just to throw this in, I went from the 8k small to the 9k small last week. First of all, I found I needed a medium in the 9k. Second, the things are too heavy. Reebok just put in too many features into this pant, and its just too much. Maybe someone doing full check could use these...the beauty of the 8k was its simplicity, so I think I'm gonna get another pair of those.
