Crease in eyestay

Recommended Posts

OK, my first official post....

My new Bauers developed a crease in the eyestay just below the 4th eyelet from the top, right behind the BAUER logo. The thing is, I've only put <10 hours on them.

What are you guys' opinion - is this just the skate breaking in, or are they prematurely breaking down already? They were baked when I got them.

I would say that they are not stiff enough for you, get a pair of 8090.

oldtrainerguy28, what does taking a picture of the insole do, just wondering?

Well that would show if the skate was to big it would be the cause of the breakdown so quickly. When in doubt check your insoles to see where your toes are.

I wear 10.5 shoes and the Bauers are 9D. I've put in Superfeet insoles, but I used that method of taking out the insoles and standing over them to make sure I got the right size when I bought them. My big toe just presses against the toecap when laced and standing.

Your skates are "breaking in." They look pretty new.

They are new. I was just wondering if its possible for break down to start so soon. If so I want to address it while I still have the chance - I bought this maybe a month ago.

That all depends on age type of play and anticipated growth. If your not growing anymore you want that fit you have.

Although personally I wouldnt stand when checking the feet on the insoles outside the skates always check sizes seated with the knee at a 90% bend.

Then you go for the feel of the skate after that.

Almost all skates these days can be pushed out where need be. So if there is a pinch or a bone pinching issue that can be taken care of at a equipped hockey store. Another reason to use your local hockey store and stay away from online dealers for skates!

Any scout (if young enough to be scouted) will tell you now they are looking for good skaters that see the ice well. So where good fitting skates profiled to make you skate your best and a proper good fitting helmet to keep your brains from being scrambled.

They are not "breaking down," they are "breaking in." Relax and enjoy them.

Well most likely you are right there is a chance if they are to big they are breaking down that is the first area to go.

I hope I'm not growing any more...at least not lengthwise. Now that 30's around the corner, I gotta watch that I don't grow sideways anymore. :P

Why's this? Because the boot has more room than just the length of the insole? Or because the boot gets bigger after break in?

Haha, I didn't know there're scouts for the over-30 league. I can skate good and I can see the ice well, but doing them together, well.... :D

I did have the Bauers profiled though, just in case anyone's watching from the bleachers.

LOL....sorry didnt read the profile. What size shoes and what style do you wear? Do you think you have a wide foot or regular?

and what size is the skate...

I wear 10.5 casual shoes, 11 sneakers, and the Bauers are 9D. My feet are sort of narrow wedges...narrow in general, but widest at the toes and quite narrow in the heel, except for a wide muscle under the medial (inside) ankle bone (someone once called them skater's ankles). Low flat arches.

Sounds to me like the skate might be a little wide how close are the eyelits when done up?

When laced, it's about 2" to 2.5" from the edge of one eyestay to the other, pretty even all the way up.

So they fold over prety good then.......I will measure a pair tomorrow sounds like they might be a little to narrow...that being said if you are playing only a couple times a week there should be no issue at all...if a daily basis then maybe we look further!

Yellow would be cool to go with my pink skate guards (they were the only color in stock - wonder why). You can see them in the corner of the first pic.

dude do you wrap the laces?? you may be tying the top few eyelets around your ankle too tight, so when you lean forward you are actually bending the boot instead of just the laces.
