Crazy Otto 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2006 Five guys that started the current season on my team are suspended for tonight's game. Two are done for the rest of the season; two more have multi-game suspensions, and one is just for tonight's game. We started the season with about 13 regulars plus some part-time players. We have some other guys who will miss tonight's game because of vacations or work. If we are lucky with subs from other teams we will be able to put 10 skaters on the ice tonight. What are the suspensions like in your league? I play in a local beer league, and fighting typically draws a two-game suspension (it's a 20-game season). Third man in usually gets you a 3-game suspension. One of our guys had an eight-game suspension from last season, plus a year's probation, and when he got baited into a fight a couple of weeks ago, the league came down hard on him and suspended him for a calendar year. There is an appeal process but when you're already on probation they nail you pretty good. I've never played on a team that had this many suspensions. It's tough when the team needs wins to get into the playoffs and we're down this many players.

Eazy_b97 1 Report post Posted June 14, 2006 Alot is based on the circumstances and how the refs see it. A called fighting major is 1 game, usually a 2nd fight means you are done for the season. Intent to injure and others are based on the infraction. 13 game season. If there's too many problems with a specific team they are just gone.
Miserable 6 Report post Posted June 14, 2006 Fighting gets you tossed for that game and the next but that really deepends on the refs, the cooler ones with toss you for the game but give out minors for roughing so you don't miss the next. One of the leagues I play in tosses you for 3 minors in the same game and fighting puts you out for the season on paper but hasn't happened to any of the brawlers on my team yet. CHIEF22 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2006 Fighting in beer leagues is just plain stupid. Noone's getting signed from one of those games. Correcto mundo.. The league at my rink is first fight is a season suspension.
Ogie 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2006 Our league gives two games for fighting, second fight and you're done for the season. One other interesting thing they have--all stick penalties are double minors. So for any high Stick, Slash, or Crosscheck you sit 4 minutes. With 10-12-12 periods, that is a chunk of the game. It really helps keep the stickwork down. All Torhs Team 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2006 8 minutes of penalties on a player = ejectedWhat is that? Crap!!!Ive had games with 12 minutes of penalties. Not cause im a dirty player --I normally get one penalty in 3 games. But if the ref gets you once, he looks for you all game. Once youve gotten it twice you gota play extremely clean. Justin K. 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2006 The league I play in, fighting gets you banned. Period.
QandA 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2006 If it's a "real" fight, or if one guy's just whaling another, it's 3 games. If it's just a pansy fight, you get off with a ten. After three 10's, any 10 thereafter warrants a suspension.

kosydar 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2006 I ref the A adult league in my town and like Eazy was talking about, its all circumstancial. We follow USA Hockey rules, so fighting is 1 game (plus a $50 fine). Any game misconduct is a 1 game suspension. Third man in is 1 game as well. A match is 30 days, so usually like 4 games. Other situations really haven't come up, but we'd just follow USA rules. The 3 of us who ref the A league all try to not suspend people as much as possible. Unless its a serious tilt, I'll just give them a misconduct and a rough or something. To actually get a suspension from me for fighting you have to drop the gloves and punch someone, not just shove. Of course, if the person has been a dick to me during the game I'm not going to do them any favors. But this season (15-20 games that I've reffed) I've given out 2 game misconducts, both for fighting, although they were in separate games. If someone drops their gloves, like what happened in both of these cases, and doesn't throw a punch I'll just give them a ten.
dix0r 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2006 the rink i work at doesn't really enforce things like they should, so guys fight, and even if they do get suspended for a game or two (depending on refs), there's a good chance they'll be allowed to come back the next week anyways. it's not super-violent or anything, but i think if there's rules they should be enforced fairly...i've heard a lot of the guys here are banned from other local rinks...some of the "fights" (if you could call them that) are pretty amusing to watch :]
Chadd 916 Report post Posted June 15, 2006 Sorry Otto, my plane didn't land until 8:30. It's hard to make those 8 o'clock games on the other side of town. Dave said he recruited the subs for next season.

Guy Incognito 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2006 FIGHTING / EXPULSIONCAHL has adopted a no fighting policy wherein any player(s) ejected from a game for fighting will suffer a (5) game automatic suspension for the first occurrence. Any player caught fighting for the second time will be suspended for the rest of the season. There will be no exceptions. Any player suspended or kicked out of the league due to fighting is not entitled to a refund from the CAHL for any missed Games.INDIVIDUAL INFRACTIONS Fighting - $40 and suspension Abuse of officials - $40 and suspension Playing while under suspension - $40 and suspension B level player on C2 team $40 and suspension - $40 and suspension
kosydar 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2006 What do they mean by abuse of an official? If its physical or on going verbal, we give them a match. Then the rink has to decide whether or not to let them play again.
johnpace2 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2006 Fighting gets you tossed and 1 game suspension. You can get more if you're really out of control.A guy in our league once cross checked a ref in the face. He was suspended for life AND arrested. I think the reason is that hitting another hockey player is one thing, but a ref is sort of defenseless without most of the major equipment we wear. chk hrd 164 Report post Posted June 15, 2006 we have a ref in our league that thinks he's king turd of shit island. If you question a call (even nicely) the guy talks to you like your a piece of crap. I've seen him challenge players to fights. The last game he reffed me in I was thrown out for saying "ah come on" because he made a crappy call...and I was saying it more outloud to myself then challenging him. Then while skating to the bench he puts his hand on me to shove me over to the door (i was at the middle of the bench). I told him the next time he touched me he'd be looking at the lights from the ice and walked off. While I was getting undressed the guy who runs the lead came in the locker room (just to see if anyone was in there). After complaining to him about the jerk off ref he tells me that it's not the first complaint against the guy and they would have to talk to him again....Fortunately for us he hasn't reffed one of our games since. aoes812 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2006 Here where I play if you fight you are suspended for the season and possibly banned from playing hockey there again. You might even be charged. It might sound harsh, but fighting in beer leagues is pretty dumb unless you absolutely feel like you have to.
Crazy Otto 0 Report post Posted June 16, 2006 Sorry Otto, my plane didn't land until 8:30. It's hard to make those 8 o'clock games on the other side of town. Dave said he recruited the subs for next season. Chadd we didn't do too badly: on Wednesday night we played with 8 skaters and managed a 3-2 win. Last night we had 10 skaters and tied 5-5, could have been a win though. Had a 5-on-3 for the last 61 secs of the game but couldn't score.Talk to me later about the subs. One is OK, the other's a meathead who is the main reason we tied instead of winning last night. Took 5 minor penalties.

Lots of younger guys home from college or whatever, playing against graybeards like myself. Usually it's the younger guys who are dropping gloves.
