What if....

If you're going to play that game you might as well ask what would have happened if Buffalo hadn't lost half their defensemen.

Or if Ed Belfour didn't suck and half the Leaf's lineup weren't all hurt at the same time.

Part of winning the Cup is getting lucky. The Canes got lucky. If they had lost, people would ask what if Cole hadn't gotten hurt?

Carolina had a really deep team and I was rooting for them out of the East, so calm your ass down. I think that they are one of the most well-balanced teams in recent memory. It isn't like anyone can say they just got on a hot streak and got lucky in the playoffs, their regular season numbers speak for themselves. I'll say it again, every team that wins the Cup gets lucky when it comes to injuries. Losing Cole sucked, but they were able to replace him with Weight and Recchi, who combined are better. Remember two years ago/one season ago when Tampa won? They had something sick like only 30 man games lost that year. The Canes were lucky, simple.

Or Im tired of all this crap... you guys make itsounds like carolina sucked and they couldnt have won it if none of this happened

I'm not saying that at all...they were more than capable of winning regardless of the hard luck of their opponants. By, really, do you rmember a Cup run in the past where oen team saw players drop from opponents rosters like that??

Ya gotta be good to be lucky, and you gotta be lucky to be good. Carolina was lots of both this Spring.

You left out the often curious officiating in their favor.

The canes won the games they had to win on the ice. Nobody can or will ever take it away from them. Carolina had more talent than Edmonton and the fact that it took 7 games to put the oilers away, even after they lost Rolie, was surprising.

What? I live in freakin NC. Thats ebondo

Get your facts straight, then talk to me

Sorry all canes fans act the same. I got you mixed up. 90% of canes fans will forget about the cup soon as the next NASCAR race is in town anyways.

The Oiler PP never made them pay, though. Canes PK was awesome, except for Game 6 when the entire team stunk. Canes PK effectively won the series for the Cup.

I honestly didn't think they would go all the way. I seriously thought they would have been ousted agasint New Jersey.. then Buffalo. They do have a well balance team indeed and some depth but nothing spectacular IMO. But winning the cup crowns a very good season on their part and they deserve it. All the players were pulling in the same direction. There was nobody complainging on the team even when Laviolette played musical chair with his goalies during the series. They were focused and were ready to pay the price to win the cup and they did. Aaron Ward, an ordinary defenseman at best just played an awesome series... Mike Commodore a number 6 or 7 defenseman played well too. It just seems like all the players on the team elevated their games a notch or two, or three for some players out there and it all worked out at the end. I did not expect Brindamour to dominate that much during the season and the series etc. The stars alligned properly for them and it was their year but I doubt that they will repeat their feat any time soon but who knows.

forgot this was the NBA and the league picks which team it wants to win and has the officals call the game accordingly.

I would say their powerplay won them the cup. There were a couple games against Buffalo they won simply because of their PP.

I never said that, but the officiating was really bad at times. It wasn't back to the old days but there was a lot of stuff that was ignored and then suddenly a penalty was called on something that had been ok for the entire game. I have no idea what McCreary was doing on the ice for the finals, he's damn near as bad as Fraser with his selective calls.

I'm with you chadd, it seems like an oilers guy would get questionably taken down in the corner by a carolina defenceman, same thing happens 10 seconds later in the other end, and it's an oiler's penalty. 20 seconds later... carolina goal.

Granted I HATE the carolina organization, but I do like a lot of the players on the team, just would have rather seen the oil win.

Funny, I couldve sworn it was the other way around. Especially in game 6
