Bauer 8090s vs 8000s

Recommended Posts

I'm skating on the '04 Bauer 7000s right now, but looking at either the 8000s or the 8090s. What are the differences between the two skates? I searched and was unable to find anything comparing the two.

The 8090's weight compares to the weight of the XX's. Although i dont think that the weight of the 8000's is heavy either...

nobody knows anything?

I found that i guess the 8090's are "classic fit" and the 8000's are "modern fit" what exactly does that mean?

JR- I'll bet you know something about them...

8090s fit like the old mega 90's, a bit more like a Tacks type fit. The 8000s fit like the Supreme line has for the last several years.

The 8090's will fit similiar to the Vapor XXs, but slightly more comfortable than the XXs. The 8000's are much heavier than the 8090s but they will fit more comfortable. Also, the 8090s feel wider in the toe box than the 7000s and 8000s yet fit snugly in the heel. Hope that helps.

The weight difference isn't that great between the vapors, 8090 and 8000. To say one model is more comfortable is purely a personal preference and not really an accurate way to describe them.

i was told that the 8090s will fit more like the bauer 8000s. the rep told me that they should have the duribility and fit of the top supreme series(8000), but the performance of a top end (XX) skate. basicly i took it as a cross between the 8000 and the XX.

And somehow the V12. What I heard is that Bauer/Nike just took the best features of all their top-skates and combined them into one.

i'm pretty interested in these skates too.....my one concern was that i remember reading on here that some said their durability wasn't great. anyone know about this?

I wouldn't expect them to be much more durable than the Vapor XX considering how light it is.

The 8090's are probably the lightest skate out, but built identical (in construction) to the Vapor XX...Durability is yet to be seen, but I can definitely say they will not hold up like an old pair of Supreme.

When you take so much out of a boot, durability is sacrificed. No company, including us, has proven me wrong.

You see, I ALMOST sold a pair of size 8 80-90s the other day...then I realized that I didn't have them. R.I.P size 8 :)

What do you mean RIP size 8....I am sorry, I rode the short bus to work today

Hey Justin, I am told by my LHS that Mission takes things out of a product to reduce weight and Bauer uses technology to mininze weight. They do not sacrifice durability, they enhance performance. This is why there are over 300 players wearing Bauer skates in the NHL and only few wearing your models.....

The performance part is true but those 300(exagerated number) also don't pay a dime for skates so if they break down in 3 monthes it's of no concern to them.

gmsamiam - That's not a good way to defend your product. All of the participating manufacturer representatives on MSH are open about where they work. We have an open forum, and if you feel that BNH products have been slighted in some way, then you're more than welcome to state your points to defend said products. Anything else makes you look petty.

okay, so back on track, i have a pair of 8090's and the durability, as far as the little things go is not the greatest. first off, the toe cap. I know its a supreme line skate and things should look pretty traditional but after skating mebbe....15 hours in them (5 hours of game use) the toe cap is getting cut up, a little of hte stitching on the side of hte boot has worn off, some of the leather stuff is showing alot of wear and the liner is looking pretty old, though the feel is still good. My biggest complaint would be the tongue, as someone actually cut through it and sliced my foot when they ran into me. this is in the forefoot, would not have been a problem if it was where the lacebite pad is (molded plastic inserted into the tongue). besides taht, the overal durability, feel, support/stiffness, etc are all excellent.

I wasn't bad mouthing the skates...Your right, more people in NHL wear your skates. In fact, I think Vapor XX was one of the first new products that changed the way people buy skates. Congratulations to you. I respect Bauer, as almost all of the companies in the hockey business. During the Show in Toronto, I actually met the guys responsible for the XX and congratulated them on their success. I have no bad feelings for Bauer.

Also, I believe I said they were the lightest skates on the market, and they were built very similar to the Vapor. Also, I made a general statement that as skates are getting lighter and lighter durability is being sacrificed. I then stated that an old pair of Supreme would hold up longer than the 8090's. That's it - That's all...

As for your comment about Mission taking out stuff in our skates, that's crazy. We have yet to base a skate that sole marketing purpose is weight. We actually have about 10 times as many parts as most competitors (other than Graf), and that is why our skates fit better. We sacrifice increase weight, for a better fit and better durability. Sure weight is important, and we are working on reducing ours, but we will not compromise our fit, just for wieght.

It's amazing that the few NHL guys we do have, only use 2-3 pairs of skates for an entire NHL season...

does this mean that the pro-stiffening package that come with s500s only last 1/3-1/2 of a pro season.. CONTRARY to advertising claims that they last the whole season? :o this is very very suspicious

Oy vey....I bet the skates are still usable. Pros do have practice, game, and playoff skates. If a pro only went through 2-3 pairs of skates in an entire season, that is amazing. I believe I read on here that Forsberg goes through a pair of XX's every month.

From missionhockey.com, the S500's '...are built to withstand and 84 game PRO season and more'

I still don't understand the 84 game part, I believe Mission is saying that the skates would still be in working order after a season.

I saw a pair of Poapst S500 at Hawk Quarters in Chicago a couple of months ago. They were in perfect shape ( as were other brand skates of other players). These skates definitely could have been skated in next season...but they're not going to be, pros get whatever they like and new equipment before they need it if they wish

As you may or may not know, pro players are picky...Are the skates still skatable and in decent condition? Sure, but if the pro player notices anything different they order another pair.
