Flyer moves

Recommended Posts

What moves should the flyers make? obviously dropping savage and brashear were good moves but what about forsberg he's already made it clear he doesnt want to stay in the nhl much longer and now hes out to january, it may sound stupid but why not trade while you can get big $ for him, what do you guys think they should do in terms of trades etc.

Since when? Last I heard, the Flyers were trying to extend his contract beyond next season. Peter the Great loves it here.

Yeah, I've heard nothing about him wanting out of the NHL -- there's no reason he would, I'm willing to bet he'll be playing sled hockey in his old age.

He talked about staying home a couple different times when he was in Denver and he "loved it" there as well.

Forsberg also has a no trade clause, after what happened way back in the day with Lindros, him, and philly, he made sure that he couldnt be traded again. Not joking either. So they are stuck with him unless he waives his no trade clause...which knowing him, wont happen.

what about roenick, I know he wants canada but him and clarke are buddies and JR never truly wanted to leave the flyers and clarke's got a history of picking up players he traded away ( recchi montreal)

whats the flyers cap situation like? Last i heard they were pretty much screwed after giving out a couple big contracts last year. That was before the cap increase though.

The flyers need a bunch of new defensemen though...... I wouldn't want hatcher on my team in the "new" nhl for what they are paying him.

I'm pretty sure that Clarke won't pick up JR again. He really really wants to go to Canada

The Flyers have the "big" two signed for another year or two, Jonson and Desjardins are gone and Hitch doesn't like Pitkanen. They have some guys that played a lot last year but none of them are really top end guys. Gauthier is probably their best returning defenseman in their eyes. I really don;t see them having the money to sign another defenseman unless they lose someone to UFA or via trade.

They need to get Gagne under contract, other than that it is time to start the rebuild. Maybe add a decent vet or two on defence to help whatever prospects they have back there develop.

Is there an actual rock they could sign as a defenceman? They need to sign the Kool-Aid man to come sugar up Bobby C.

I think you're wrong about Hitch not liking Pitkanen. Last year he told him multiple times to step into the play whenever he saw the opportunity. Before his injury last year he was playing better than Johnsson.

Yup, his play tailed off a bit after he got hurt but I never heard anything about Hitch having a problem with him.

Also, Pitkanen is the top D guy as far as the team is concerned. He's their future.

Clarke said he’s going to try to sign Johnson but he's not gong to just throw money at him.

Brashear, Savage, and Radivojevic won't be retained and Desjardins is most likely going to retire.

Hatcher may be bought out or traded if someone will take him, there is something up between him and the team but it hasn't come out yet.

They are keeping both goalies for right now and Nitty will be the starter, they will look at getting rid of Esche if this causes an issue.

Once they re up Gange, Umberger, and Nitty, they will have 6 million to sign FAs and are looking at getting at least one D man and a right wing. They are looking at middle of the road salary guys instead of big ticket contracts right now.

He singled Joni out for criticism more than some guys who actually deserved it last season. There were also very strong rumors that Hitch wasn't coming back next season as he isn't getting along well with the front office.

That's not so much a hate for Pitkanen as it is his love affair with vets. He's been really rough on almost all of the kids and has played guys who shouldn't be on the ice over some of the more deserving rookies because they have been around longer.

When the kids are your best players, you have to get them on the ice. They need experience at some point.

Agreed.

That's why Hitch isn't too popular these days. He'll give vets plenty of ice time no matter what but bench the kids if they make one small mistake. Desjardins was a turnstile all playoffs but didn't miss a shift. He would have scratched a kid if he made just one of the mistakes Rico did.

Don't go picking on Rico, I like him. :P He usually gets stuck with the worst defenseman they have and gets hung out to dry a lot. For a three or four year stretch he was one of the top two way defensemen in the NHL, but was stuck playing with Therian. Put him in a team defense situation like Detroit and he could contribute for another couple years, like Larry Murphy when he sucked too much to play in Toronto but went on to play well for another few years in Detroit.

He used to be solid but he's been past his prime for a couple of seasons. He had a good season when his contract was up a couple of years back but he's nothing like he used to be. I agree he's had bum partners but he's still a step behind the pace.

It's funny how people compliment Lidstrom for not being physical but Desjardins used to get abused for it. He's a #5 guy now who can still run a powerplay. The problem is they couldn't use him that way with all of the injuries last year.
