Would a deeper boot eliminate my ankle taping?

Recommended Posts

OK, so I use the CCM tacks skates, and I tape my ankles, Not very tightly, I still have flex in them, but it adds a little support that I like.

The Easton boot seems a lot deeper, would going to a deeper boot maybe add that little extra ankle support I am getting from the tape on a shallow boot

Or is it all in my head?

I don't think that a deeper cut boot will eliminate you ankle taping. The main reason that people tape thier ankles is because they lack the ankle strength to provide thier own ankle support. I would start donig workouts to strenthen your ankles and then you will find yourself not using tape.

That is not true. Maybe for a beginner but it's personal preference. I've been taping mine for 22 years--I just like to have them tight.

Yes I know that it is mostly PP I was just advising him on the way he should go if he should choose not to use tape anymore, and that if he changed to a deeper cut boot just to eliminate ankle taping may hinder his skating. I was just trying to help him out. I always hear somebody in the locker room say that they have to tape thier ankles to skate because they say they have weak ankles.

the 06 tacks have a deeper boot than the 04s. i went from the low level tacks of 06 to the 04 852s and there is quite a difference in boot depth/ankle height. i got more support with the newer tacks but not much flexibility. do you lace your 04s to the top?

It's all preference. Taping ankles doesn't mean you have weak ankles, I don't tape mine but some people do. Just like stick length, people will always tell you what you should have but it's all up to you, I've used sticks as short as my chin w/o skates and up to the top of my head w/o skates.

Taping ankles does noting but hinder your skating same as warpping the laces around your ankle.,

I will try to do a video on how to do skates a diffrent way at the top that works wonders for those guys that love it super tight.

You need that flex but you do need to feel your skates are tight as well.

So then what do you suggest?

A lot of girls on my team tape their skates. I tie mine tight on top and tape my laces, but thats just because I hate them to come untied.

;)

OK, I am not sure I did the way you have described right, but I tried. Should I be left with what looks like a series of X's as a lacing pattern on the boots, because if not, I did it wrong.

Of course, with my level of intelligence, I do a lot of stuff wrong

Go tell that to Coffey, Fedorov, Kovalev, Korolyuk and much more player which are world class skater.

I feel that my strides stronger with tape.

The fact that there are world class skaters who tie their skates using method X does not necessarily mean that method X does not in general hinder one's skating ability. It just might be that they were preternatural talents (likely true of all) who were able to become world class in spite of their skating being hindered. Maybe they would have been even better if they didn't use method X. Whether this is true or not, I have no idea, but I just can't stand logical fallacies.

Agree with you, without tape or with it, they are awesome skater but believe me they know what they are doing when they tape their ankle they have reasons.
