I've heard that most cruise ships have very small casinos with poor game selection, often just one or two tables. Of course, that is in regards to poker. If you're looking for pit games I'm sure they're better.
figgifumi_11 3 Report post Posted July 6, 2006 The Royal Caribbean Voyager class ships have the best mix of things to do (ice skating, rock climbing, inline skating, putt putt, virtual golf, etc). The casino is rather large as they are usually in direct relation to the size of the ship (Voyager class is the third largest afloat). As far as drinking, Carnival Cruise Line is much more of a younger party crowd, especially on spring break. But rest assured, no matter what cruise line you pick there will always be someone offering to sell you a drink or two :D
HotBacon 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2006 I was on a Carnival Cruise last summer (Carnival Glory). They didn't have an ice rink, rock wall, or ice rink, but made up for it w/ bars and lounges. It's kind of a buzzkill when you have to spend $6 or so for a plastic bottle of beer though. Beer sure to smuggle a bottle or two of good stuff in your luggage to make the final bill a little easier to swallow. Carnival is a younger crowd, but at the same time there were a ton of unsupervised kids (anywhere from 5 to 16 years old) running around being very annoying.Take a look at where the ports of call are, not just the ship. You can have just as much fun on the nude beaches as you can on the ship.

trucks 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2006 Never been on a cruise but from what Ive heard avoid Carnival. They are designed for families with kids and like mentioned earlier all you see is unsurpervised kids running around. My grandpa told me of a cruise line he said was just amazing but I cant remember the name but I remember it being some European or Asian country who it is names after. Dangles 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2006 Royal Caribbean are decent. Holland America provides a very nice ship and decent sized rooms along with lots of ping pong tables and all that jazz. However, their administrative side of things is terrible. Princess Cruises could take the cheese I think. They're well organized and have nice ships. Stay away from Carnival (too kid-oriented) and Disney Cruises. Disney is once again, more aimed at families with kids aged 4-10.
Michael9 57 Report post Posted July 6, 2006 I've been on 4 cruises and out of 4 norwiegien cruise line was the best. Disney was great, very organized but also way more expensive, Carnival sucked balls, they didn't know what the hell they were doing, and norweigien(twice, soon three times) was awseome, good size cabin's, very organized, not overly priced.IMO defently go norwiegien, no they didn't have a rock wall, or a rink was but that was defently the cruise i've had the most fun on,for more information on cruise's my mom often reads alot on http://boards.cruisecritic.com/
hockeymom 2 Report post Posted July 6, 2006 I've had great experiences with Royal Caribbean, Princess and Holland America. As someone suggested earlier...look at the ports of call and decide where you want to go. Then look at the individual ships on that trip. You're pretty much guaranteed an interesting mix of people on board at that time of year.I did my first cruise at 18 with my mum...great time. She gave me tons of space to do my own thing....umm, do her own thing. Bet your dad will be equally happy with mix of "together" and "apart" activities...sounds like a lot of fun!! figgifumi_11 3 Report post Posted July 6, 2006 Norwegian Cruise Line is also an excellent choice; I sailed on the NCL Dawn to the Mexican riviera and had an amazing time. They have this thing called freestyle dining where you don't have a set time for dinner, so you can choose to eat in any of the restaurants (anywhere from 5-10 different ones) anytime you want. Most other cruise line (except Princess) require you to have dinner at one of two seatings per night in the same with the same people. Make sure to actually get out at the ports of call and do stuff. figgifumi_11 3 Report post Posted July 6, 2006 also, wheres a chaep placce to book a cruise? Expedia or travelocity. Also check with a local travel agent as they can get great deals as well and can help you decide on different aspects of the trip.

Most other cruise line (except Princess) require you to have dinner at one of two seatings per night in the same with the same people. That's only if you want to eat in the "fancy" restaraunt. Every ship has a ton of choices (buffet, pizza, grill, etc.) if you don't feel like changing out of your shorts and flip flops to eat.

Jason Harris 31 Report post Posted July 6, 2006 In that case, I'd suggest you start monitoring the site by late December, although you might have more difficulty in finding a great price if you must go during that week.Basically, the cruise lines are trying to fill their ships, because once they have departed they can never recoup the lost revenue. So they discount the trips to appeal to people who can go with little forewarning -- maybe 4-8 weeks.

I've only visited it after reading about it in the Travel section of the paper. Still, it appears to list upcoming cruises at discount prices. I'm not sure what you do once you've found an appealing cruise.
