jrhky36 1 Report post Posted July 16, 2006 plain and simple all it is a popualarity contest. why do so many player from the yanks, bosox, and mets makle it every year? every year someone will get robbed of a spot. verlander and zuyma should have made it. but thats ok because they will make many more in the future. btw how many teams have 2 pitchers who throw over 100mph besides the tigers? the tiger are going the win the al central, the white sox will win the wild card. oh and the best divison in baseball is the al central. TBLfan 25 Report post Posted July 16, 2006 I agree that most of it is a popularity contest. But if you look at who made it from those three teams you mentioned they all deserved to be there.Carl Crawford definitely deserved to be there, but he doesn't get much press since he's a devil ray. The white sox will win the division, the tigers will be the 06 version of the 05 Orioles. And, who cares about throwing 100. Kyle Farnsworth throws 100, Danny Bautista throws 100, Daniel Cabrera throws 100.Zumaya belonged in the all-star game? You'd rather have your 7th inning guy in over Mo, Papelbon, or Ryan? Why? Because he throws hard?
McCabe24 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2006 The Reds were also leading the league at one point and look where they are, the season is just over half over. It is a popularity contest to some extent but it isn't like Jeter, Ortiz and Wright among others aren't having all-star years. Obviously, there will always be deserving people left out but that is what happens when there is no exact criteria in determining a worthy player. In the end, what really matters is whether or not the fans not only watched, but felt satisfied in doing so. As far as throwing 100 goes, where is Billy Koch these days? TBLfan 25 Report post Posted July 17, 2006 Last I heard he went to oakland, but that was a couple seasons ago. I still think my Yankees are going to have a pretty good shot, considering how well we're playing with all our injuries. I mean we did just sweep the white sox without Sheffield, Matsui, Damon and Cano. I'm not promising a world series win but I think we'll be doing well when our guys start to get healthy. mack 44 Report post Posted July 17, 2006 I think the last all-star game that I saw that mattered was in person, so that doesn't count. Other than that it'd be in one game that Murphy doubled. There are no good all-star games for any sports though, so I can't be surprised.

trucks 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2006 Detroit may win the division but it doesn't matter because the White Sox will get in with the wild card. That race is just for home field, the real race will be between the Yankees and Red Sox and hopefully the Jays can pull within another game this weekend and be 2.5 keeping them in the race. I think it will be the Yankees taking it in the end. As for the World Series I think Chicago's experience will lead them past Detroit at least this year. I have the Mets and White Sox in the World Series with the White Sox taking it in 5.
