Sprung Hockey

shoot, i messed up & accidentally ordered an 8pack of bearings instead of a 16pack. why would they even sell that? :(

Skateboards

just like tests in school, i do all the hard work & comparison shopping, but make a careless error like that. oh well. haha.

any idea about these little sorta spacer things that come with it? its just a small sleeve. it doesn't hold between like a normal spacer. but the sprung axle's don't fit between a normal spacer anyway.

i like.cant wait to hear your feed back when you get some good skate time.

as soon as it quits snowing and everything that's dumped on us has gone away. 3 Fridays in a row, 3 heavy snows in a row. I'd rather go to one of the parks than play kid slalom at the skating rink, but I may have no choice except to wait for June otherwise.

Anyone have any problems with getting their sprung frames mounted? I took my He10000's and frames to the pro shop at Anaheim Hockey Club (Now Rollerhockey monkey), and they are telling me that they can't mount them with the machine they have and that after asking around I will only be able to get them mounted by Sprung themselves.

Any had theirs done is So Cal? Where is a good place to have it done?

Thanks in advance.

so I got to roll around a bit more today on a surface a little bigger than a kitchen floor, but not full blown skating rink size. My initial impression is that these frames do cut as well or better than any of the frames out there right now, however I was constantly waiting for my feet to come out from under me, mostly because of the awkward feel. Also, the initial pushoff step felt flat, little power. I'm not sure if it's because I'm strictly an inline player and have a modified stride or whatever, but it just didn't feel like it was very explosive. Once going the frames ride smooth, feel solid and do stop on a dime. Once it quits snowing and I can get to an outdoor rink I can do more testing out of these things, but my initial impression is that these are not going to sway me away from the Vanguard chassis.

I've already contacted Keith on several occasions about various things with these frames with questions and comments, but I thought I'd voice some thoughts to see what everybody else thinks:

-different durometer springs are almost a must imo. What might feel right to me may not to others and vice versa. Maybe three different options for soft, medium and stiff to truly customize ride feel on the frames. Ice players get their blades profiled in different ways, and that's what the stiffer/softer springs would most likely allow since it's a progressive tension system and a stiffer spring would give much less and create a longer wheelbase with the lesser play in it. Conversely, softer springs will allow the suspension to give a little more freely, shortening the working surface for a smaller radius feel.

-inclusion of floating spacers with the frame. I'm using the Tour floating spacers, almost exactly like the sonic floating spacers on inline warehouse. These spacers retail for about a dollar a piece, so maybe a few dollars markup on the frame's retail price to cover costs, but make it more convenient for those who purchase the frames.

overall though, these are a solid product and do have the ice like feel to them. I haven't been on ice in about 10 yrs, and always preferred wheels to blades. For anybody who does play both, these are probably golden. If you're trying to talk an ice player into inline, even just for summer, outdoors parks, etc., these are probably the best route for them to look. For purely inline players, this could be a hit or a miss, but it is solid so don't let the lack of aluminum be your turnoff.

I know Keith is working dilligently to cater to as many people as he can, and this frame and system has the potential to cater to every player out there for personal preferences. Sprung is still a young company, so it's what the masses want that will dictate for now to help Sprung grow and thrive until he can get to the point to cater to every little need and have the professional network of resources in place to do so.

I was just at Anaheim earlier this evening. Next time i'm there I'll go over the mounting with them so they can do it. They were charging $15 to take frames off ane $15 to put the new ones on, which is a good price.

We mount them in San Diego with the same machines. Some places have the inline mounting tools which are more the size of a ballpoint pin instead of a ball pean hammer. It just takes mounting one pair to know how to do it right.

I just got a pair of Grafs to do for a guy on the forum. I charge 20 if the old frames are already off and $30 if they aren't. I used to charge just $20 but it's such a pain getting the old frames off without a rivet machine.

I'm in LA near Pasadena and Glendale.

Could I ship them to you and get them done? I have no problem with your price.

Let me know.

Thanks

Has anyone had a problem with the wheels rubbing at all? It seems that some of my wheels roll better then others especially when i tighten the screws completely. Any advice?

Indoor Skates:

Mission Pure Flys

New Sprung Voodoo

Bones Ceramics

RR Hot Shots

Outdoor Skates:

Mission Amp Flys

Sprung A6

Bones Swiss

RR World Cups

I have been on the A6 for about six months and the new chasis for about one month. Once you get these chasis dialed in there is no going back. I have hundreds of 80mm wheels for sale.

your right, there is no going back. in my opinion the frame design is way to superior than most if not all metal frames.sprung frames will give you a smoother stop, two front wheels to push off on your stride, tighter cuts.just a well thought out design.what these guys at sprung have figuered out is unreal.keith and joe have done a great job.and they love hockey, nough said.

inlnfn: how much stiffer are the springs on the new model frame? I feel like the older model is just to soft a feel for me, combined with a softer boot makes me feel like I'm inches away from being on my head when I go to push of initially.

Keith, did you manage to get those skates out to me in Australia? hoping to get them by the 15 Jan, which allows me to take them back home and show em to the rest of the gang on the team (they are due for new skates soon i think)

i use the easton because i dont have wheels on the bauer. actually to be quite honest, i'm going to put sprungs on the eastons. it will weigh them down a bit more, but im willing to sacrifice the weight for the performance.

sdcopp:I would guess about 30% stiffer compared to the A6 but the whole chassis has a very soild feel to it. I noticed with the A6 if I put like a quarter turn tighter on the front pivot bolt/nut it would take away the squashed feeling taking off with out affecting the overall performance of the chassis. I don't have to do this with the new ones.

Its probably the wheel spacers or the bearings are not completely seated in the hub. All my axles shank out "run out of threads" and the wheels spin totally free. Are the wheels RR Hornets ?

I tried searching for it, but I gave up halfway. does a sprung chassis have any benefits for/is it suitable for goalies?

The ballistic testing Keith has been doing shows these frames to be nigh-indestructible compared to a regular aluminum chassis, and the lateral movement on these is incredible. There is a ton of nimble feeling to these, and given how costly goalie equipment is, these would be a small investment, even on new boots as a second skate to try out.

inlnfn: I'll have to try the extra quarter turn to see if that helps with the front. It's encouraging to me that the newer model feels that much stiffer up front. I think part of my problem is too soft of wheels, combined with the give in the frame and a boot that is softer on top making all the flexing and compressing of parts just too much for me. A little tighter and some harder wheels might do the trick, though I'm going to try the new model on a stiffer boot to see how high-performance I can get it to compare to my indoor setup now on the Vanguard.

There's a few goalies out there using them. The ones I've heard from love them. Maybe one of them will put their views up if they see the thread.

They are Rink Rat MB 816.
