Sprung Hockey

So here's some new mountups.

The Grafs have a mockup white frame made up of old parts, cause the new shipment won't get here till later this week. I marked and drilled the holes and patched the old ones with two part putty. I'll take these off and put the real thing on later. Just wanted to see how beautiful they'd be. You can see the blue center line I use for forward/rear placement. They're tilted a little, so the center of the frame doesn't appear to be right over the mark, but it's dead on.

The old Wickeds are Chris Diez's, the Flys are Kevin Wee's and the Grafs are Davis Pailliotet's, who's been on the old model for quite a while.

I also just mounted a pair of month old Wicked 3s, but I don't have a picture. I expect to be mounting a pair of Wicked 1s later this week.

SickLife,

Those look way cool....I like the way the yellow rocker arms and laces look with the yellow in the boot graphics.

ok, first reaction after using it in a game with no break in time.

the ice hockey stop's i tried in warmup were amazing, & loud, heh. i just have to get the confidence to do them with both legs planted in game situations & i think that'll be great.

speed was about what i'm used to. i also have to break in the new bearings.

the best thing i noticed right away was the weight transfer. just so nice.

& the fact that i had more grip with harder wheels, which i'm sure will translate to more speed.

Has anybody else than me done timetests useing both the sprung frame on their old frames(after adjusting to sprung ofcourse)?????

As mentioned before I feel Sprung(Keith) is going in the right direction with these frames, but they don't supercede my old Red Star Alloy frames in overall gameperformance, feel alot of sprung users on this board are bias when it comes to evaluating their new frames, "I can feel the shifting balance, and added grip, these are great and way better than my old frames", I can feel the differences too but it doesn't translate into my game and make me a better player.

Someday a Sprung frame will, but not now.

Just my honest opinion on a innovative product.

The new model is enough better than the old one to change the minds of a bunch of the best pro players in the world. It's nice to hear how much they like them now, from these guys, but the important part is they're using them all the time now where they wouldn't before.

Of course they had to try them to find out they were better.

It'll be easier for new players to try them now that I have the sale site back up on line with the new model. I'm still updating the rest of the site.

Keith,

Are you offering the new frames in different color configurations yet? I'll take any color as long as its black!

Thanks for your help

They only come in white, but the white dyes black much better than the natural color material we used to use. All the rocker arms were dyed!

The black material was only used in the frame that holds the rockers, because it was thick enough to hold up OK ...and we owned a lot of them. The surface texture sucked, though. The black material rocker arms broke Quickly.

After a ton of trials and tribulation, we think we've got the best there is. They provide more performance than we thought was available. They're the color they were originally designed to be, and we haven't been able to break them yet.

All it took to sort everything out was a better design, better material, and a better manufacturer. And 8 of this cat's 9 lives.

Thirty minutes and a bottle or box of Rit dye will make them the best black ever.

I'm curious, some pages back you talked about doing other designs on the frames. Would you do this with the Rit, and how exactly would that process go? Or would the plastic hold paint okay for things like that?

I have no bias. The frames are really the real deal. I cant say it enough. Ive never had so much grip to the floor or such a tight turning radius. The only thing I have found is that I feel i have lost some speed, but they may be because I just came from hummr's

Has anyone played with different wheel configurations?

A hack version of the Hi Lo?

Maybe 76 in the back and 72 in the front to give yourself a little more forward lean?

Keith, have you done any tests with this?

I can't imagine that being a good idea as it would keep the back springs flexed to adapt effectively ruining why it works the way it does

Just got the sprungs yesterday, and will be trying them out tomorrow. I've put some Rink Rat MB816's on them, and hope those dont explode like the previous few I've used.

will let you guys know on the outcome

Yep! Doesn't work. When we were still having trouble with stuff breaking a lot, the 72s in front broke the #1 and 3 rockers. As things got tougher it was tested again and just sucked. No stability. Sort of felt like old fashion rockering.

We've had to deal with Mr. Ballofmyfeet in our own camp. Even he's happy with the new ones and this is a guy that does Everything on the front two wheels and will sometimes make four hard, full speed (front two wheel only) stops for every thirty feet he moves the puck.

Keith, do you know if anyone has tried a heel lift, and what kind of affect that would have on the frame? Would it keep the ball of your foot feel, or would it just compress the rear springs and throw off the balance?

just a thought.

Just a quick idea for the people wanting stiffer suspension. Mind you, I haven't tried it, but you might be able to drill a hole in the "spring" (maybe 1/4")and insert a piece of metal, say aluminum, in it. The metal should be the same length as the spring. Make sure you really have to push the metal through as to not allow any play so that you are not making less stiff. This should limit the amount of compression the spring can achieve. Just a thought...

One other thing. I think the people that are traditional roller players, like myself, have developed bad habits of skating to much on our toes. I really feel the sprung has forced me to correct this problem. I feel that Sprung, though might not be as fast (very close though) Makes me skate over my skates, and I get more out of my strides, and makes for less wasted energy. This also helps in shooting being the weight transfer is more effective.

Keith,

Sorry if this has been asked before, but there isn't any problem with baking a skate with the Sprung frame mounted to it, right?

no, there isn't.

Im thinking of getting the sprungs mounted on some new skates but im not sure what. My current set up is this \/

P1020564q.jpg

I want to go better then this. What do you guys suggest i thought about the supreme 70s becasue i heard they fit the sprungs well but i have narrow feet so they may not suit me.

What is the best set up that you guys have found? I like the 9k se but im worried about the duration of the pumps. and after about a season they will look aweful.
