Sprung Hockey

Recommended Posts

Just sent you an email Keith.

Here's a tip kids, don't try stopping like you are on Ice on the Spungs. I accidently tried it the otherday and almost broke my right ankle. My fault not the Sprungs, but what an ass bruise I copped. ;)

How are you supposed to stop in these? Why can't you do a hockey stop?

This looks real cool I would like to get one of those as well!

Im talking about stopping almost completely upright, the wheel's didn't slide, all they did was grip. It was like I hip checked myself! ;)

Incidently I used to be able to do a "hockey stop" on my sprungs until I went back to ice a few months back for the 1st time in years. Totally screwed my roller stopping technique into the ground. Looks like I will have to re-learn it all over again.

I've been using rink rats mb816's .. and you can hear me stopping (literally). The wheels just groan under my weight... I dont fall over, but maybe cause i really bend my knees a lot and lean in the stop.

aussie joe... you wearing a girdle or hip pads when you play?

fatwabbit: yeah it sort of like the traditional powerslide, but since they start stopping already in the turning circle fase, it's extremely effective.

I've seen 2 German brothers play using hi-lo frames, and they stop insanely fast.

They only use 1 foot for stopping, turning in a circle motion, while they use the other foot to keep balance.

They stop faster than any guy I've seen on any frame, including sprungs.

It's all about technique.

Can you describe this a little more? I know a picture (video) would be worth a thousand words, but it sounds interesting. My son has a roller hockey stop where he pretty much just uses his outside skate for a one footed stop. I was thinking it may be okay until he gets some more weight on his body or develops more speed at which time he will have to use two feet. But the German boys may have that licked as well.

Like i mentioned, i can do an ice stop on my right side, and can do a power slide on either side. Not sure about it, but it does seem to work for me during puck handling. I've never been a great skater, dont even consider myself good, but at least I can still puck handle while doing a power slide...

guess it depends on what works for you...

Great videos. That is essentially how I am stopping. Notice I said essentially, which means that in my head that is the way I do it :D

I am interested in the one foot pivot stop mentioned earlier by Patrick. It sounds like what my boy can do. He kind of kicks down hard with his inside foot at the last second and uses it to push off. Nearly all of his stopping comes from his outside foot. He has been trying to teach me but I can't get the hang of it. I blamed it on my extra weight and higher speed. Maybe I just suck....

Gman:

Around the 15s mark, its a bad angle and not at full speed, put you get the picture. (pun intended hehe) They stop just as fast as that coming off full speed.

When you watch the Free Skate videos you can see the next market for the frames. Free skates are hockey skates or hockey frames on high end fitness boots. More hockey boots than there used to be. They're also using the outside of the boot, and it's called a sus-slide, I think. Aggro boots go quick, these guys must trash a pair of hockey boots in a month.

I've seen Walt Austin do a two footed hockey stop on a Steeply inclined wall top, at speed, that was maybe 18 inches wide. After stopping a few times till it felt right, he went down the incline, through the hard angle to the flat which was about 15 feet long and then jumped across the road gate to the wall on the other side, which had a 1 foot offset. The road was about 15-20 feet wide, and the wall about 12-15 feet high. Like I said, a steep incline. I even have it on video.

As for hockey stops on the rink, I watch players all the time that can do a too foot stop and glide exactly as long as they want to and then stop. Or stop dead and stand themselves up.

The spin stop as shown to me, is just a hard spin and you turn your front foot sideways and lean into it, hard. Like putting your foot down when you stop backwards, only it's on a spin.

This is the stop for the guys that screech to a halt twenty times while moving the puck ten feet down the rink. B)

Thanks. That makes sense. It is quite a pivot.

Thats essentially how I stop on my right side. Cant do it on my left. Wont pressure myself to do it, as I've already got a bad knee and dont want to risk going thru operations and rehab again.

Cool, sounds like these are great frames. I want to buy already mounted.

I did search only found pair on ebay.

CCM VECTOR with A6 SPRUNGS

Actually my size 8.5! And my ice is CCM too -will bid! :)

Also found another guy there, but his size is not mine :(

Anyone knows of any other places where I can buy mounted?

Hey Keith,

your PM inbox was full so I'm gonna leave a quick message here. I'm the guy who asked to get his 692 Tacks mounted by you.

I submitted the amount for the Sprung frames via PayPal. My final decision is that I will get them mounted by some LHS. I would have liked to get them mounted by you. Now I am not only saving shipping costs, but 2 x customs fees (import and export from the U.S.). It is just that much more economic. I am looking forward to posting my setup here soon!

Thanks for the support!

I'm pretty sure Keith will do the mount job for you, but you will have to send him a set of boots. I know it's not ideal but hopefully soon we will see these things coming stock from the factory.

Just got my Sprungs in the mail today.

My first impression was that I was expecting the spring to be more noticeable feel-wise and the frame really feels solid and well constructed. I can't wait to get them mounted.

Keith those look fantastic but is that paint? What prep work did you do to get it to stick? Will it last or will it chip?

is that spray paint!?!?!?!

It's car paint I'm experimenting with. I'm trying to find a bonding agent so the paint won't pop off like on plastic bumpers. I don't think this is the stuff, but I got to revisit out how cool spray paint is and what you can do.

I actually crinkle finished these with metallic blue and a different solvent clear coat, then three coats of correct clear coat to fill the crinkle.

SHOWCAR! Totally tasteless, but I couldn't resist. They won't last, but I'm going to have a good time knocking the paint off of them. RACECAR!!! :)

Soon as I can get the picture moved over, I'll post the Gold Frames with the Blue Rockers. If you wore these things and didn't score at least three times, you'd be laughed out of the rink. TOTALDUDEWEAR.
