LetsGoWings13 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2006 Ok im going to start driving in febuary because I took drivers training late and I have been saving up for a car. I got about 4,500 saved up and im not really sure what to get. I wanna get something good on gas but not something that looks horrible. It doesnt matter if its a stick shift or an automatic id actually prefer a stick because from what ive heard they are better on gas mileage. Anyone got anny suggestions on what to look for. jasper 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2006 any honda or acura gets great gas mileage, or for that matter most imports get good gas mileage, but hondas and acura are the most reliable and cheap.
Squirrel 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2006 You can get a used Integra for around what you have. Great mileage and not bad looking either IMO. As for myself I bought a 90' diesel VW golf for $2500 and it runs forever haha.
TBLfan 25 Report post Posted July 26, 2006 hondas will run forever and they hold their value well(just don't rice them up). Toyotas also go up on that list. I've had my Toyota full-sized truck since I started driving, previously it was owned by my parents... It's a '95 bought in 1994 and the only thing needed to fix besides regular maintenance was the A/C compressor. Surprising it lasted that long considering it went out after about 8 years going full blast probably 60% of the time(it's hot here in florida).
Project_2501 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2006 F430 ftw. I mean, who would want anything less?Yeah, early-mid 90's Accord will do the trick.
jasper 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2006 i am getting a '97 Infiniti I30 for like 5600 so thats a pretty good deal and and its pretty reliable safe car too, so hopefully it'll last awhile
beaucoup_fish 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2006 Get an Echo. If you live in the GTA, I know a buddy who's selling a white one with a Borla exhaust. The gas mileage is great, and man, with gas prices at what they're at, I don't think anything else matters much at this point in time. Unless of course, you have a lotta $$$$$$$ (which you don't, apparently). In that case, yeah, F430.
figgifumi_11 3 Report post Posted July 27, 2006 Take a look at some Nissans. Similar in qaulity and reliability to Honda/Acura, but you can tend to find some better deals on them since you're not paying as much for the name.
hockeysew 0 Report post Posted July 27, 2006 Apply the K.I.S.S. theory on this one-Keep it Simple StupidThis is your first car correct? Then face the reality that it will be a learning tool and is going to get dinged if not wrecked at some point in time. Why dump a bunch of $ on things that wont really affect the way it drives-if you are going to put things on it make sure that they are items that if -God forbid- you wreck it, you can transfer it to another car.....Keep your reciepts in case of wrecking it or theftRemember also the hotter the car looks and runs, the more likely a target of theft.Stay away from Turbo's or Supercharged rides for now-They can be hard on an engine and drivetrain and if you get something with higher miles you can be getting into Pandoras box when it comes to upkeep-not to mention insurance cost and the tickets you will get cause "you have to hear the turbo kick in!!"Stay away from the European vehicles as while they are very good vehicles, they can be quite expensive in the parts department-Saab alternator=$350The Riceburners are generally well made yet reasonable-Toyota alternator=$90My oldest son went through the same dilema as you and luckily his common sense prevailed, he picked up a very clean non-turbo Supra for waaay cheap and has been gradually fixing it up as time and money can afford. He is focusing on making it as mechanically sound as he can first, and then tweak things as he moves along.Remember that this is your daily transportation first and foremost and you NEED it to be reliable. :D

Koho is Dead 0 Report post Posted July 28, 2006 My first car was a Oldsmobile Sedan! And beleive me, I took alot of crap from my friends when I had that thing! Although I have to admit, it drove very nicely. Once I got a new car, I was actually like down-grading from the wonderful feel if you will. LOL

markthedeadhead 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2006 Honda/Acura and Toyota cars last forever. Make sure you don't spend all your money on the car, as it is your first one, and it'll probably need some work done not too long after you buy it. Or you just might want to put a sound system in it. Funny how that goes really...Did you know that the Big 3's trucks are being mfg'd in Mexico, while Toyota has a plant somewhere in the mid-west (forgot exactly what state)?Saying that you're supporting American industry is almost laughable. However, I agree with you 100%, and dislike that I need to have jap-crap for a car because I can't afford something I want...
