Jsut a little fun thing to do. List the best 5 teams in your opinion in the NHL. Consider new coaches, players, and all the like.

Oh God damn... I know you didn't steal my avatar. ;)

1-Ottawa

2-Anaheim

3-Detroit

4-Calgary

5-Carolina

And I would say San Jose and NY Rangers are closing on the top 5.

1. Carolina

2. Ottawa

3. Detroit (based on regular-season performance only)

4. Calgary

5. Boston (next year they'll be a team to beat, with all their new additions)

They may not have made the playoffs this past year, but next year should be really good.

I think Boston will be better but I dont know if they are a top 5 team they may be able to sneak into the playoffs but I dont know if their upgrades are enough to make them a top 5 team Chara is a solid defenseman but offense still needs some work

I agree. I wouldn't even pencil Boston into the playoffs.

Boston may be trying to move in the right direction Phil Kessel is a nice draft pick but is not ready to be the best player Patrice Bergeron needs more help and we have to have Hannu make a strong comeback after his ankle injury the only way they get in the playoffs is a low seed and I dont think they are strong enough yet to make any playoff noise either if they did sneak in

Why does everyone mention Detroit's recent playoff failures but not Ottawa's inability to ever live up to post-season expectations?

probably because Det. is always one of the top teams in the West and ever since Scotty Bowmen left they have done nothing in the post season while Ottawa is not doing anything in the playoffs either but detriot is more noticable plus Det. was an orignal 6 team which could be another reason

no love for buffalo huh? I think they are going to be the team to beat in the east. They have one of the top 6 defensive units in the NHL, a very good goalie and 4 crazy good lines up front. They only lost Mckee and Grier and both have been replaced with an upgrade. Aside from that, almost the entire team is going to be back next year (with the exception of either Dumont or Max most likely being traded for $ reasons). Guys like pominville, vanek, and connolly are only going to build off of last year as well.

Thats a good a point willy I agree.... but in the regular season I would take Ottawa as the team to beat in the east because they have rediculous offensive power which will carry them through the regular season but for some reason they will choke in the post season as usual

The Penguins are still going to be one of the worse teams in the league they still have a long way to go before they become anything special even though they have the potential right now

Have any of you been paying attention to Carolina after they won the Cup? Weight, Recchi, Ward, Cullen, Gerber(Cam Ward will not play 82 games nor will he be standing on his head every night) are gone. They have some holes to fill and have lost some key role players. There is nothing like a good Stanley Cup hangover to ruin your next season.
