MLB Trading Deadline

Recommended Posts

Id love to see Zito come to the Jays, hopefully Ted Rogers realizes he still didnt spend enough last year to compete and gets a solid lefty starter, preferably Zito, adds some middle relief and gets a SS. A 5 man rotation of Halladay, Burnett (healthy), Zito, Chacin and Lilly would be pretty damn strong. Im sure Rogers has the money to match any Yankees offers and I see the Jays being the team to beat in the East in 2-3 years with some minor additions because they have some amazing young talent right now.

3 lefties out of 5? and 3 in a row? thats quite a bit.

I new Burnett would be a bust. He was voted the most overrated pitcher in all of MLB in SI

They might be able to match a yankee offer, but if dollars are equal, most guys would choose the yanks over the jays. Would some guys prefer the less pressure in TO? Of course. But a pitcher especially would rather pitch for the yankees then against that line up. Plus the lure of the pinstripes catches many players.

Zito is going to be a rich man regardless, as well as in the AL East. He'll wind up in NY,TO, or boston.

Well I guess if the Jays do land Zito that makes Burnett expendable and you can use him as trade bait for other needs. He may be overrated but I feel hes still got it in him to be a top pitcher. I just pray the Jays can make a better push next year unlike this year where it seems they are starting to fall off the map. Im so damn sick of the Yankees and the Red Sox, I want to see an AL playoffs with some new damn teams.

If anything however, Beltran is the man this year.

Its pretty easy to beat what he did last year...

He's beating what most guys are doing this year in the NL.

1st in RBI, 3rd in runs, 3rd in HR, 3rd in OPS.... and he has 14 steals.

...but the NL is weak.

He's having a good season by any standards, im not disagreeing with that. But to call him the "Man of the Year" is just crazy talk.

Fine... In MLB, he's 4th in runs, 8th in OPS, 6th in HRs, and 2nd in RBI. I know... terrible.

Saying he's "the man this year" is not saying he's "the man of the year".

The Phils won't come close to the playoffs for another 2 or 3 years and Howard isn't exactly a young guy.  The only chance we have next year is if Hamels and Mathieson pitch well and Lieber stays healthy.  Depending who plays 3rd, the lineup won't be too much worse without Bobby, just a lot more inconsistent.

Lieber? Healthy? Never.

The Phillies right about now should just start thinking about the off-season, and who they're going to sign/get to bolster the starting pitching and/or 3rd base position. Gordon's done very well this season, and you can't put blame on in. But aside from the All-Star Game, the Phillies can't do jack.

I don't think Gillick signs any big named free agent pitcher this year. I think he waits two years for that and I think they'll have a very young pitching staff next year.

I don't know about the 3rd base dilemna. There's no one in the system to play that position well.

Holy shit Lego thank you....I meant that in the sense that everyone is on Wright and Reyes' nuts but while completely overlooking Beltran's monster year......meaning he is the man this year FOR THE METS.

Given Wright's age and fact that he was drafted by the Mets, I think it's fair that the fans love him. He's the only guy on the Mets I can't dislike as much as I try. I've always like Beltran, but a lot less since he signed with the Mets.

Trading deadline ends tomorrow, and so far, two blockbuster deals. Carlos Lee to the Rangers, and now, Corey Lidle and Bobby Abreu to the Yankees, in exchange for four minor-league players.

Why are Philadelphia teams so (expletive) stupid? Four minor league players for a pitcher and a right-fielder who bats a liftetime .301? They should have at least been able to get someone off the starting roster. Once again, the Phillies have disappointed the city of Philadelphia.

Now, I'm officially ashamed to be a Philadelphia sports fan. Although we do have a history of trading away good players for virtually nothing. Supposedly it makes our teams better, when we haven't won a championship since 1980.

also embarressed to be a phillies fan my friend ;)

People still think they're capable of winning?  Awww, that's cutetastic.

They were already the best team in the division over the last month, best team in the league over the last two weeks, and then they get the OBP machine and a new #4 starter not named Jaret Wright.

You're right, they suck. They'll win the division by 4.5+

Cupcake, no one said they suck but they're not the same kind of Yankees that knew how to win like their past teams. They're going to make the playoffs, whether it be by eeking in or winning the division, but they won't get anything out of it.

Who's better than them in the AL in about two and a half/three weeks when the team is....

LF Melky

CF Damon

RF Abreu

3b ARod

SS Jeter

2b Cano

1b Giambi

C Posada

DH Matsui

SP Mussina

SP Wang

SP Johnson

SP Lidle

SP Wright

RP Myers

RP Villone

RP Proctor

RP Dotel

RP Farnsworth

RP God

In September 1978, there was a four game series at Fenway with first place at stake. The Yankees pummelled the Sox around 52-14, so it became known as the Boston Massacre.

This weekend obviously has the makings of BM Too.... :(

The Yankees are a better team right now, although they also seem short on pitching. Oh, well, I can always go back to what seems familiar -- rooting for whomever the Yankees are playing. :D

I want my Johnny Damon back... HE has KILLED the Red Sox so far. Like Salming USA said, time to root for whoever is playing the Yankees.

The score in the series so far: 39-21, Yankees. They have had 3 straight games scoring 12 runs or more.

First time in sox history they gave up 12+ in three straight. Worst the yankees leave boston with is a 2.5 game lead.

And, although the Yankees don't have five aces, they have as good a pitching staff as anyone else they'll see in the playoffs, and a better offense right now than any of them.
