graf g35 durability issue?

Recommended Posts

i've heard that the g35 is a great skate....but has a big issue with falling apart quickly. i read somewhere, don't remember where, that graf has since then found the problem and addressed it, it was a problem with glue or manufacturing or something like that. does anybody know what the problem is or more importantly....has graf fixed it? thanks

i knew a guy that was so damn gritty and didnt give a shit about his equipment and they held up fine.

and i knew another guy in g35's and the whole outsole started ripping away from the boot.

it may be a different wave of skate but its iffy too me

I think that if your a rugged player thats hardnosed on skates, you will tear em up, if you're a skill only dancearound guy, they'l be fine IMO

I am a skill (re: agility/speed) guy, and I tore through them with alarming ease.

The second pair lasted for about another week after I posted that - I've gone through a few pairs of XXXs since.

it's weird that there's so much inconsistancy with a company like graf that is so well known for their durability

swiss Graf was known for there durability, they moved to Canada and start cutting corners, ever since then, they been in the toilet, notice how the guys that have been around use old pairs, ie Jagr, Straka etc... they use swiss grafs...

WOW...i didn't know that, so you're saying that the 703 is one of their better models? what about the 735...i heard it's supposed to be the 'improved' 703. does it hold up well? the only reason i was looking into the g35's was because i started looking at new skates and i'm a 5.5 in graf so i get away with junior size skates, barely... and in junior sizes the g35's are only like 20-30 bucks more and they're supposed to be top shit or whatever. i was originally thinking about getting a pair of 703's, but the guy said the 735 was the same thing just a little better...like the integrated sole and all that jazz, now i'm really in the air about what model to go with

Well its obvious you dont know anything about the Graf factory.

The machine in Calgary is an exact duplicate of the Swiss one. The diffrence is when they first made skates here they were a little diffrent in sizing thats about it.

As for Jagr using old ones I know for a fact thats BS. I was on the phone with the guy that does custom placing an order when Jagr phoned to see how his knew ones were coming. So hence no substance to any thing you had written there!

alright, i've got a question not worth a new thread, but worth asking. i tape my tendon guard to my shins (see fedorov) and wear 703's, and it works beautifully. problem is, my 703's have seen better days, and the leather is chewed up beyond imagineable. i shall be looking at new grafs within the next week, and have looked at 703's, 705's, and 735's. my question is, with the different tendon guards on the 705's and 735's, is it possible to tape the tendon guard and get the same performance? i loved the 703's, but the leather gets too cut up too fast for my liking, and think that the 705's and 735's would be more cut resistant.

Our local Graf rep also handles the Pens and OTG is right. He had a funny story about refusing to ship them skates during the bankruptcy period.

what do you mean by taping your tendon guard to your shins?

hey chadd...do you think the 703 or 735 would still be worth buying? is the g series as crappy and shakey as it they appear to be?

735 looks crappy?? Had mine for 2 years and no issues..I would however like to have the new outsole for more forard lean.

I just did a pair of 704 customs for a guy going back to Germany and they looked really nicely done.

Some players tape from the shinpad to the tendon guard.

i've just never heard of it before. i would think that would make it harder for the ankle to flex.

OTG...do the 735's come with tblade? have you had bad review's or experiance with g35? since i'm a 5.5 i just make it for junior sizes so there isn't much price difference between the 735 and the g35, that's why i'm choosing between the two.

Just picked up a pair of 735s from my lhs yesterday. Had some bad experiences with bone spurs with my XXX and didn't like the feel of the one90s. Grafs felt great when trying them on and look forward to skating in them tomorow. Hopefully the change from bauers to grafs won't be too difficult to make! Didn't want to make a new thread, and im sorry for hijaking this one, but has anyone made the switch, and if so, was it difficult?
