Graf 735 similar to 705s?

Recommended Posts

I have an opportunity to pick up a pair of Graf 735 W for a good price from a friend who works at a hockey shop in Vancouver. I'm down in Portland but we don't have any shops that carry the 735s. I'm currently in 705s regular width but had those punched out a little at the forefoot. I did a search on here and it sounded like the 735s fit similar to the 705s but I also came across some posts about the 735 fitting more like the 703/704. I'm just looking for a definitive answer.

If it helps, the widest part of my forefoot measures 4.5 inches

im under the impression that the only difference between each line in graf like XX5 XX3 XX9 is the way each boot fits.

my 705's are wider than the 735's i tried on at work

What were the widths of those skates?

my graf rep said they should fit about the same but with the 735 having a higher cuff

No....the 735 is a deeper skate and is narrower in the heel. They dont fit at all the same.

Also there is more volume in the 705 through the mid foot and in the arch area it is flatter in the 735.

Never tried on an 03 or 05 but was told the 35 was somewhere in between the two. Not as narrow as the 03 but not as high-volume as the 05.

I'd get additional info from Puckmugger's reviews on Graf skates at www.epinions.com (use search function there) and also would look up www.grafcanada.com.

Did he get his facts right for a change in them?

I've read his review and he didn't go in depth enough about the fit

No offence...but he is an author who just took up the sport.......How the heck could he possibly know how the skate fits compared to atleast 4 people i personally know on this board that have a combined 150 years skate Fitting expierence......

if your a weekend Warrior and are buying inexpensive skates then maybe go by his information but I wouldnt send anyone to his website for proper fitting information.

WOW i cant believe some of the misinformation on his fitting guides......

I agree with oldtrainerguy28. My 705's are wider in the forefoot, have less arch for my flat feet, but are not as deep as the 735's. I would compare similar sizes and widths before deciding, a good deal isn't if they don't fit...

The 735 is a combo of the 703 and 705.

Narrow heel.

Moderate Depth. (The measurement of the back of your heel to the arch of the top of your foot- where leg meets foot).

Same goes for the G35 - a marriage of the G3 & G5, which, respectively are built the same as the 703 & 705. The 7 series is duplicated in the G series - only difference is newer, lighter materials in the G series.

I just attended a dealer clinic at the Graf factory in Calgary this August.

I also saw how every major skate brand is maufacturered or rather deconstructed. There's nothing out there at present that can compare or even come close to Graf. Current Vapors, One90's, Eastons, RBK's, CCM's(what's left of that brand), Missions, all of 'em. The race for lightweight skates has gone off the cliff. And some of them are retailing well-over the price of any Graf, save a custom pair but no one else does it for the average joe. I cringe for all of you following the hype. I just hope you have Nike &/or Addidas stock(addidas bought RBK)- at least you'll be getting some benefit.

Its funny everyone says that after the course there...... but hey its the real world and not everyone will buy Graf no matter how well they are made!

.

PS. I have custom 735 with Cobras umm and that was befofe the retail skate came out.

Graf has a lot of quality problems, but they offer a wider selection of top end skates than anyone else on the market.

Chadd I dont agree actually i have not seen to many issues at alla nd not directly selling the skates I havent seen them in the store but have seen them coming in as well as on the teams I work with and had only one player have a problem with a sole on a 735 JR. Other than that...what issues are you coming across?

Virtually every mount I've seen has been off and there have been some boots that just aren't vertical, they tilt to one side or another.

Lucky I guess havent seen those issues up here??

Out of the half dozen pair or so we got before I left the shop, every pair should have been returned in my mind. The customers never noticed but my I couldn't make the sales in good conscience.
