Theo Fleury coming back?

Recommended Posts

Last night sportsnet reported Fleury is attempting to come back to the NHL. No team has signed him or given him a tryout, but they said he's been sober for 6 months and hes way down from 208lbs he weighted in at last in Belfast. There's no link on the sportsnet webpage for some reason, but Pierre Mcquire was talking about it on the radio this morning as well. Kypreos said if anybody would give hima tryout it would be Sutter and the Flames.

When he was over here playin (belfast) and they played away in coventry, the fans used to wave little bags off flour or watever, thats were all the pictures came about off him tryin to jump over the plexi in the penalty box. He was treated like shit over here, by refs, players and away fans. There was also probably the odd home fan that would shout abuse or so. Great asset to our team and would be for any, pleasure having him play for us.

Inflatable saringes(sp?) also come to mind, he was well respected by our team as I have spoken to a few in the off-season but the ref's were almost out to get him IMO, and then you start to get the stick throwing skills of Courtney added in and the refs would just throw them out straight away.

Coventry were the biggest offenders by far.

wasn't he a coke head?

I don't ever think drugs were mentioned - it was alcohol.

He used cocaine aswell.

Find me a report where it said that.

He was interviewed on sportsnet a year or two ago and they asked him if it was strictly alcohol that he was addicted too. He said you name it, I had a problem with it, but he wouldn't get more specific than that. But I definitly agree that his addictions have been exagerated a lot.

Using and addicted to are two very different things. However, as a hockey fan (and Ranger fan) I was under the assumption that it was a well known fact he was using illegal drugs on top of the alcohol, although cocaine was never specifically cited. It's like Boozin Ozolinsh. His problem was listed as alcohol, but it was known he had a problem with prescription pain killers.

Cmon now, we'd be naive not to think otherwise. JR, I don't know if it's ever been "officially reported" in a column, and we were told otherwise, but we all knew how Lindros got that concussion in Philly. Well his first anyway! So just because it isn't listed officially anywhere, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. People talk, sources leak...

Word around the campfire was that he was caught with Rod Brind'Amour's wife and Tocchet beat his ass.

And then Rod went to Carolina

I'll take his word for it, me and my Dad spoke to him earlier this year and he spoke briefly about it. (Actually stemmed from the question "So whats with those yellow laces?")

How does a convo go from yellow laces to stories of drug use?

"Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking about the yellow laces...I was coked-up."

Or: "Oh shit, you mean my laces are really yellow? I never noticed. Everything just looked like white lines to me."

There was a rumor that Philly called up a kid from the Phantoms to pound on Lindros in a practice to set him straight. Rod demanded that Philly trade either him or Lindros. At the time, Philly made the right choice.
