Who here plays(ed) on Olmypic Size Ice?

Recommended Posts

I used to play on the Lake Placid rink a whole lot during tourneys and summer camps, and I absolutely loved it. I think all the NHL had to do to better the game was change to olympic sized ice, but that would cut too many high priced rows of seats out for the owners to even think about it.

Played a couple years back in Campbellton N-B. Very nice arena and very good experience.

i play the only olympic sheet in NC. seems a lot more open to me but alas i'm just a n00b right now to hockey.

man i hate the ice plex. if you want a stick-puck or even a public skate the olympic size ice is great because theres so much more room...

playing on it... i liked it because i'm able to have more room to get around teh defenders and the attack is more spaced out with bigger passing lanes. defending on it is a pain in the ass though. for the same reasons

I play on them all the time and love it. It really benefits the players who like to skate and make long passes. As a defenseman, it is more difficult to play 1-1s and such because more room is provided for the forward, but it is not that big of an issue.

couldnt agree more

i have played on an olympic size rink and it seemed really odd, but the bigger ice leads to more offensive opportunities.

it is just like going to a roller tournament and the size being different then your home rink. id say the size differential is a lot more common in roller due to like roller rinks and other factors.

Wow, am I the only one that doesn't prefer it? Granted I played most of my games on it but I really liked the smaller sheets.

I think they both have their up's and down's

olympic

+ GREAT home ice.

+ Good for conditioning.

+ Big advantage over teams that come to our sheet from regulation sized.

+ Plenty of ice to practice on

+ Ice doesn't get as nasty near the end of the period.

+ As JR said, more space between the hashes.

- More real estate. I am on a pkill line and having 3-4 players on that much ice is a pain when your shift is long.

- Olympic size usually means that your rink leans more tword figure skating. Ours does and hockey gets little respect around here over figure skating.

WE used to have an olympic rink at the facility I work at. I loved playing on the rink because of all of the extra room (but I love playing 3 on 3).
