Wicked 3 Pain

Recommended Posts

I have had the wicked 3's for about two months now. I will definately give them a 10 for performance. The boot is stiff and definately responsive. I have tried the wicked 1's and thought those to be way to stiff for any type of hockey unless your over 250 lbs. The chassi is faster then anything ive skated on, not to mention the wicked 3's come with swiss micros which are also faster then the titanium micros in the wicked 1's. However comfort is more important then performance and I personally rate these a 0 for comfort. Mission decided to skimp on padding the ankles and, like many others, I also have a problem with that little bone past my ankle. I would definately not recommend buying these online, try them on in the store and if they fit your foot well, then buy them. TRUST ME, THE PAIN IS NOT WORTH THE PERFORMANCE!! I have been a bauer skater my whole life, my next try will just be a converted ice skate. If anyone is looking for wicked 3 boot with no chassi, let me know.

The thing here is all of us inline players got exactly what we asked for: stiffer and lighter. If you go through the trouble of baking and a little punchwork, they fit and feel pretty good. Justin has already addressed the fact that next years will have to learn from this years, but Mission did present what feedback they got from players. I would personally rather worry about a little pain up front for a skate that won't fall apart and continue being useful than live through another debacle like the first Helium line-up.

Ok, so then wait until next year to buy them. I never questioned the quality, this boot will definately last, but playing 5 times a week on a skate that feels just OK is not a good idea. I have to use my old pair for half of my games because the pain is too bad. This is after punching and baking three times!! I highly recomend trying on before buying!!

you can bake them all you want.. you still have to skate in them to losen the skate up. There needs to be some sort of flexing going on to losen up the boots. Baking molds the skate to your feet it doesnt completely break them in.

So, I wasn't able to bake my skates tonight, but I did wear them on the floor, and here's my experience:

The skates are definately more comfortable while moving around on the floor than sitting in my living room stationary. The ankle pain I was experiencing was more like slight discomfort while I was skating. The lower part of he boot was very comfy. They are, however, the stiffest skates I have ever used. After about 20 minutes or so, my feet started getting a little sore, so i removed them for my old skates. The soreness isn't what finally got the best of me, it was the feeling of the chassis. I definatley noticed a difference in posture while skating with the vanguard chassis. Also, I stopped much more quickly than in my regular hi-lows, (I wasn't quite prepared for that) amost to where I would tumble over. Much more wheel to stop you.

So, just wanted to say that the wicked 5's are great skates and that the pain I felt earlier almost disappeared when I was actually moving. The chassis will take a little getting use to. (for me anyways)

I also noticed the different posture, and I think it's an adjusted pitch from the standard hi-lo. Hummers made me feel back on my heels and hi-lo made me feel thrown onto my toes. The Vanguard feels like the happy medium, at least to me.

Ive had the wicked 3s now for just less than a month and they still hurt my ankles. I know Justin has said the pain will go away but has anyone here had these skates and experienced pain, but the pain has gone after a month or so?

Mine seem to feel fine for fairly new skates that have been on my feet a half dozen times or so, the pucks sideways in the boots really helped that out though. After a couple of days with them like that, I them did the hot, wet sock thing and they feel fine. Only been baked once too. Of course I'm the type that looks for the ski boot feel.

I just played tonight and my ankles are almost black and blue.. i love the performance of them though. I also took sometime to get used to the chassis.. I love the vanguard though.

Almost? If they're almost getting black and blue, they will get black and blue. Take it from me.

This may be a stupid question, but when i go to bake my wicked 3's do you suggest keeping the wheels on or taking them off before baking??

I know from expierience that if you bake them and then start hitting your heel on the ground, to set your heel back in the boot, your rear wheel will loosen up a little from deformation between the bearing and wheel hub. I just swapped the wheels.

I go my wicked 3's baked a couple days ago and skated on them for the first time last night. For warm ups and the first period the skates felt stiff but were bearable and i was able to skate fine on them. Then about half way through the second period the PAIN started setting in. It wasn't a bruising type pain, it was a blistering paing like my skin was being ripped off and by the end of the game i was basically walking, not skating. I stuck it out throughout the whole game and when i took my skates off after the game, sure enough i had two huge blisters on the insides of my feet. The blisters are on the insides of my feet just below the ankle bones and are huge, but i didnt experience any black and blue or swelling of my feet. Did anyone else experience these types of blisters? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix these blisters and stop this from happening again within the next two weeks before i go to narch winternationals in phoenix??

You can try some nylon socks(panty hose)... put them on your feet, then your normal socks, you would wear in your skate, over them... pain from pressure will still be present though, but no new or bigger blisters will result... di that for 3 sessions after i got my blister(same spot as yours)....

now for my final impressions on the "wicked 1's"

GREAT SKATE!!!

as someone posted above, we all called for a stiffer more durable skate... Mission has delivered... I think too many of us have been downright SPOILED with these "fit right outta the box" skates we've seen... Once these things break-in they are simply incredible... so all i can really say is MAN-UP!! take some pain to get the skates broken in... if they still do not work out, then go to a different brand and quit crying about how stiff they are... WE ALL ASKED FOR IT...

thanks.. rant over...lol

;)

I got a pair of the 1's and man, like many before me have said, these things kill my ankle bone on the inside part of the ankle. I understand that they wanted to improve the durability and I'm all for that.

I think once they are broken in they will hold up great but I think there should have been a little more padding put into the that inside area of the boot. It's obvious why there is pain because there is basically no padding at all where the bone meets the boot at that point. I don't see how this problem was overlooked before releasing the skates. Just put more padding in that one spot.

fyi - I'm comming from the vsi team carbon's.

I thought the 7500's were stiff and hurt a little in break in, are the wicked 1s or 3s not for me?

maybe try the 5's then. The 3's and 1's aren't out of the box to the rink comfortable by any stretch of the imagination. The 5's and 7's pretty much fit that though. The 3's and 1's require some baking and some time just wearing them, but are great once you get them worked in a little bit.

I'm in the market for new skates now since I broke the chassis on my 7500's and since it's the 2nd pair I've gotten from Mission after my d-1's (I got a pair of d1cs also) broke I'm not that disappointed about having to pay for skates again.

I like my 7500's a lot but if the 3s or the 1s are that great, I'm willing to pay the extra amount. I'm just worried about the horror stories I've heard here so far.

The only problem I've ever really had breaking in skates or with skate pain were with Bauer roller hockey skates back in the day (the H9 I believe) so I'm not too concerned.

well, my 3's will be here soon, and i cant wait.

it will take a bit of work by the sounds of it, but it'll be worth it. i hate getting new skates, and a durable skate is what i want!

word. i've had several bauers and they were the absolute worst i've ever had in terms of comfort.

old school H3's, some other that i forgot, Vapor 8's, all of them tore my feet up, like working on a Ford, it felt like they put jagged edges inside the skate to tear your feet up on purpose.

Missions have been generally easier for me to break in and are perfect afterwards, and my current Tour's are the best i've used. zero break in, no baking, and they feel like a dream. even after hours on them, i never feel afterwards like "man, my feet feel like i've been wearing skates all day"

The 3's are great post baking and a little wearing around the house. I have no doubts about durability with these things, and they are definitely for those who like the super stiff boot.

So I went down and tried on a pair of the 1's the other day and they felt fine except for a little bit of pain on the ankle pre-baking. I baked the skate and tied it down semi-tight so I hoping I don't have too much of a problem although I'll find out tomorrow night.
