Thats too bad for Irbe, he was a pretty good goaltender, he must took that loss to Detroit pretty hard to go on a downward fall like that.

He hasn't been the same since his dog attacked him. :)

He's always been a really streaky goaltender. He had a great run with San Jose in the early/mid 90's, then turned weak, same in Carolina.

No way will he only be playing 10 games, the aquired him so they could give Denis a break as he got burnt out last season.

Well, don't get your hopes up too much. He'll play, but it won't be that much. Denis has shown over the past two seasons that he can handle 65+ game seasons. Irbe is brought in as a backup, simple as that. If Carolina and/or Columbus thought that he'd be more, I'm sure that it would have cost more than future considerations to land him.

I was just stating that will play more than 10 games as a backup, there would be no point in taking on his contract (though Carolina probably picked some up) and have him not play. I'd expect him to play 20-30. I am just happy he is out of Carolina.

Denis, Brathwaite, Irbe and Pascal Leclair? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. The should have an excellent AHL team next year.

Welcome to Columbus Mr. Maurice.... ;)

I hope for all that is good and pure that Columbus doesn't hire "bazooka" Paul... I'd rather hear interviews with Gerrard (which is painful enough) for another year.

The Irbe deal is very minor. I can't say for sure but I highly doubt he's making $2.75 million this year. He'll be lucky if he's the backup on Columbus. My guess is that he'll spend most of the year with the Dayton Bombers.

His contract was 1 year $500,000

Columbus still retains his rights and they have not released him.

Irbe's deal with columbus is for $675,000.

I highly doubt he'll be spending any time on the bombers, since Syracuse is Columbus' farm team..

The only reason he was sent to the ECHL last year was because they didn't plan on playing him much in the AHL as they developed the young goalies in their system. Neil Smith, who ownS the Chiefs, asked Carolina to assign him there.

denis is a workhorse, this is probably more as an insurance policy than anything. once this team gets a little more time under their belts expect them to ride denis into the playoffs.

If they can buy him a little more rest it will help them in a push for the playoffs.

Carolina must have picked up a lot if he is only getting $625 000 from Columbus.
