CCM oxy socks

Recommended Posts

I just purchased a pair of the oxy socks by CCM and I have to say that so far, I believe they do what they claim. Basically, they feel like a pair of stockings on your feet, only a little thicker. They come up to just below the knee and fit very tightly. What I noticed, however, was that I was able to lace up my skates a good deal tighter, with no pain in my feet. With regular socks, I had to leave the skates looser, and only tighten up the last two eyelets, otherwise my feet would hurt. They claim to help the blood flow in the legs and feet; and based on my first impressions, they seem to do just that. Just thought some of you might like to know.

My first pair of skate socks were oxy's, but i switched to the synergy skate socks just because thats what my lhs stocks. in my opinion synerys skates socks are just as good, a little too short though

I skate them for 2 years now and i like them, tho, im going barefeet since August and i like it. I dont give a damn about smell (Funkfree, olé) and breaking down skates.

i went barefoot for a month or two and the smell became unbearable after that. and that's with me always unlacing the skate, opening the tongue up, pulling out the insole, and hanging them upside-down.

and here's a timeline of my skates quick demise:

skate for 3 months

gone in europe for 6 weeks

skate barefoot for 1-2 months

[terrible infected blister]

skate w/socks again for a month

right skate develops crease below ankle, both lose stiffness in upper

they're low end synergys (700's i think) but i woulda thought they'd last longer than that. i'm wearing socks (again) from now on.

Thats what i do. Well, since im going barefoot, it seems to me that i can skate better but maybe thats just vanity.

I will wear them next time and look if it will make _any_ difference.

Oh yeah, while talking about socks.. I got these Easton Synergy Skate Socks and i noticed that they dont work out on Superfeets. Maybe its jsut me, but it felt like couldnt get "grip" and it was a weird feeling.

Superfeet and barefoot is an awesome combination (at least for me). I dont know how it works out with OXYSOX, but i'll try it when im on the ice next time.

They are the #3 best selling item in my store, only behind laces and tape. If you play hockey more than once a week, 1 pair just doesn't cut it. A lot of skaters have 3-4 pairs. I have 4 myself. I believe they really do help reduce fatigue for old guys like me. They are so popular I'm sold out and havent been able to get anymore. :(

Anyone out there using the Merrell Oxysox, and if so what model Oxysox should one be looking for, for hockey purposes? I can't find anyone in my area that sells the CCM-branded model, but as far as I can tell they are made by a company called Merrell, which I see makes a few likely looking candidates. Thought maybe I'd have a better shot looking for those.

I am using the Merrell version actually. I don't like the CCM one. The Merrell one I have has a tighter, non-ribbed foot.

Merrell makes shoes and boots. I got my pairs from a Merrell rep.

Nuggy - where did you find them?

OxySox is the mfgr - they make socks for different companies, CCM and Merrell included.

Mine are black and have the Merrell logo on the foot.

She should be able to.

Cool, thx.

Have the CCM oxysox atm, but thinking about buying additional pairs of oxysox's.

Is the any difference in matrial/constuction besides the tighter, non-ribbed foot of the Merrell's?

Nuggy - where did you find them?

JR, I haven't found them, at least not locally. A few months ago when I looked into it, I found a few online places that stocked more than a few models; what confused me was that the descriptions for more than one of them said they were suitable for hockey ; never ended up buying them. But when I just searched for them now, I can't seem to find any websites stocking more than or two types. Weird. There was a guy on ebay selling them, probably seconds, but his listings described padded soles, which I figured I don't want. He has since disappeared.

Here's one place that has them, but again only two models.

I'll look again later tonight. JR, do you happen to know the model of the Merrell sock recommended for ice hockey ?

Thanks for the info guys. I haven't seen them anywhere near me, but, then again, I haven't been looking for them. I'll see if I can find them at Pure Hockey or No-Icing (only an hour's drive away... yeah, I know only an hour), and if all else fails, maybe I'll order them online.

I used ccm oxysox after going barefoot and my legs just felt too warm and it felt sort of slippy in my skates, like my feet were moving around a little. Since then I've gone back to being barefoot, but might give these socks a second go.

I use the Synergy socks and I am having a problem with painfully cold toes. I have the high end Synergy skates, got them when they first came out. I put wax in the hole on the bottom of the skate and tape over it to keep air out. I used Nike Dri-Fit soccer socks last night to see if there was any difference but still had cold toes. I play in a 3 20 minute period ice league with only 7 skaters so I get a ton of ice time, my skates aren't tied up too tight, can't figure out what the problem is. Any suggestions as far as trying different socks or heat packs?

IMO, barefot is the way to go. The smell i really bad, but that's the only bad thing about it. I started to go back to socks and got the oxysox by ccm...do like them, but even with these, they don't give the feel for the ice as you get with barefoot.
