Saw 2 NBH schools tonight

Recommended Posts

So I just got back from the Michigan/ Western Michigan (both NBH schools) game and noticed the following:

Western Michigan University-

Skates, pants, and gloves were all NBH. They ALL used Vapor XXX lights, but 9 out of ten of them were shaft/ blade combos.

University of Michigan-

Skates, pants, and gloves all NBH. As far as sticks, I saw Stealths, STs, SL's, Synergy IIs, TPS Response Lights, and Vapor XXX Lights.

Are there 2 different contracts a school can sign with a company?

it all depends on how much money the school gives them for ordering equipment and how they decide ot budget it... of course NBH would definitly help with recomendations as to what costs less but performs best for the money

Also a lot of the CCHA schools in the midwest seem to have contracts with NBH for thier hockey gear most likely because their other sports programs wear or have been wearing nike for a while. I know this is the case with Ohio State. The entire university sports teams wear nike and the hockey team was wearing nike or bauer and now wear NBH. I know CCM/THC has contracts with other universities that stipulate what equipment they have to wear, such as 2 goalies wearing CCM/THC gear.

In college athletics, as CTaz said, many schools will commit their entire program (athletic department contract) to a contract with a provider. For instance, BGSU has Adidas for football, basketball, hockey, etc...

And I heard today that Addidas is taking over RBK/CCM. I found it hard to belive since RBK just took over CCM not to long ago and seems to be in full stride.

But from your picture, having RBK pants and gloves but Addidas jerseys. Could it be a step?

Dude, where have you been? adidas bought RBK a year ago

I dont know, with my head in my ass probally.

How come Addidas hasnt put their logo on helmets and stuff?

Probably because of how well Reebok is doing.

Yea, every school has a set budget for different areas, e.g. travel, equipment. When I was at NMU I filled the orders for equipment. Even though we had a deal with NBH, players were free to order things from different makers.

Budget is the main proponent, but couldn't you make the argument that almost all equipment across the spectrum of big name manufacturers cost right around the same at wholesale/discounted price?

Naw, they varied widely.

*Just to split hairs*

Actually adidas bought Reebok. RBK is just a part of the reebok brand(think Nike air). RBK has been the athletics brand that has contracts with basketball, football, hockey and most larger lacrosse leagues. Adidas, being as smart as they are, kept the RBK brand... in fact, they kept the reebok brand name to a degree in shoes, for now. They know that if they change the RBK brand which is considered "hip" they are asking for a revolt of sorts. People don't like changing something that is good; think of new coke, clear pepsi, white michael jackson. All of which faced quite a bit of backlash and lost sales.

The only thing that surprises me about sports and "shoe companies" is that New Balance didn't get in the game sooner.
