Vapor XXX vs. One90 (Skates)

Recommended Posts

I currently have vapor xxx skates and love them, but as a christmas gift I received the one90s. The one90's are a half size smaller than my xxx's as the bauer web site says they should be, but they feel a bit small, especially around the heel. Has anyone switched from xxx to one90's? Are you glad you made the switch? What adjustments had to be made? Was there a size difference? I am debating if I should use the one90's or just get the money for them and hold out for the xxxx skate release...PLEASE provide some thoughts, thanks!

I have not had them baked yet, but that is also why I want to figure out what to do because I don't want to have them baked if I am not keeping them. I really am trying to get opinions from former xxx owners that switched/tried one90s.

I don't have any experience in switching, but if you haven't baked the skates they are going to feel very tight in the heel because the padding there hasn't been compacted yet. Its all a part breaking-in process.

**noobie question** Do you bake your skates before breaking them in, or after

you dont have to bake your skates, but it helps with the break in process (it makes it shorter)

Some skates do require baking, Kor or One90s for example.

I went from Daoust 301 Nationals to Bauer Custom Supreme 100 to Custom Supreme 1000 to Custom Supreme 3000 to Custom Supreme 3000 Pro Stock # 2 Stiffness to CCM 651 VakuTacks to Vapor 8 Pro Stock # 2 Stiffness to Supreme 7000 to Vapor XX to Supreme ONE90 without any problems. Just lucky, I guess.

Daoust 301s? You must be my dad's age...my dad's old... :P

He got a pair of One90s for his birthday 3 months back and he says his 301s are still the most comfortable pair of skates he's used.

I went from XXs to One90s and although they feel and fit wonderfully now, the process was long and tedious. The biggest change was the zero negative space. My feet felt claustrophobic (felt worse when I had an itch on my instep). From what other users have told me, that was their biggest transition too. They really do respond immediately to every little movement you make.

I skated in the XXX’s for about 15 months before switching to the One90’s 5 months ago. Both are great skates in my opinion, but very different. The XXX is much softer, especially after 15 months of skating and the One90 is very stiff, even after 5 months of skating 2 to 3 times a week There is definitely a transition period with the One90’s and those that like the XXX better may not have given the One90 enough time. I thought that for the first few months, but now feel the One90 to be more responsive. The One90 isn’t for everyone, but I don’t regret my purchase whatsoever.

Dangles, do they feel small or cramped anywhere else in the skate, like the toe box? My XXX’s are 7’s and my One90’s are 6½’s, with the One90’s fitting best.

What is the biggest part of the transition do you think? I feel like I could use a BIT more room in the toe box and it "seems" like the tongue does not have enough room to "go down" into the boot due to my foot, but obviously these are not baked yet. The concern around the heel is that it kind of feels like a rubbing and I am worried that they are not wide enough. Again, these are not baked yet. Essentially, right out of the box and onto the foot they are NOT comfortable at all...I am just worried to take it that step further where I cannot resell them.

For me it was the stiffness of the boot. Early on up and down skating was great, but I didn’t think I could cut as well as I could in the Vapor’s. My One90’s felt comfortable before baking and the baking process just made the fit all that better.

just remember tha skates will always get wider after heating and wearing them and a skate can always be made bigger, never smaller
