Mark McGwire, Shame on you!

Recommended Posts

if they suspect his 70th ball was juiced, how do they know the other 69 werent?

i mean you cant just get 1 player for 1 ball. i guarantee more players have done it, but it possibly may have been inadvertant

Actually, if true, it would be "MLB you cheating bastards." Mac didn't spec the balls.

Very true, but i'm sure McGwire had somthing to do with it if it is true.

 ummmmm...no.

you really think McGwire conferred with bud selig, asking him to make the rubber core larger so he could hit more homers? please.

Who put the "juiced" balls in the hands of the pitchers...MLB. Did they throw the same balls to other players? Did THEY hit it out 70 times? Who cares???

I really don't get the steroid thing in baseball...you've gotta have great hand-eye co-ordination and have close to perfect mechanics to hit a 90+ Mph fastball out...so if you're on 'roids...it might go 435' instead of 410'...in most parks that's still out of the park.

McGwire didn't magically start hitting homers when if (allegedly) started juicing...he just started hitting his homers farther...

Now, if you're using the "kids are watching...you're a role model" argument...I agree...but steroids didn't ruin baseball...MLB & the owners ruined baseball when things like $250 Million contracts became the norm.

Mac hit 49 in his rookie year and he was a beanpole with huge forearms. He very well may have taken steroids later in his career, but the power was always there. It's the guys who went from 30 to 70 that make you wonder.

You presume that McGwire wasn't already on steroids as a rookie.

That's true about 410' versus 435', but what about 380' versus 350'? Second basemen went from warning track power to 18 homers a year.

Regarding McGwire, some articles have suggested the (alleged) steroids allowed him to continue his career, since steroids apparently aid in muscle recovery. If I recall, McGwire had always been a power hitter but his career stalled due to back woes. Some have expressed the steroids may have helped him get over the his back problems.

I say innocent until proven guilty. Why are people worrying about what happend several years ago...when the sport itself is crumbling to the ground. Focus the efforts on getting ratings up, salarys down and bringing excitment back to the game.

Oh wait, home run races did bring excitement back to the game (some what).

This was probably why the "juiced" balls were introduced, if this story is found to be accurate.

If he was, they weren't working. Having met his father and judging from his brother's size, most of his bulk is/was natural.
