Crosby Goal

Recommended Posts

The goal itself was cool, but the presence of mind to get down on one-knee to see the puck, at full speed no less, is what makes him so different from ordinary players; he thinks the game faster.

it was nice. I don't think he would have had a chance on it if he stayed on his feet... so it was a decent read/sense of ugency.

what is up with Tampa? Every 2 minutes, there's a Lightning player trying to sit on the puck....literally sit on the puck, and hope for a whistle. Nothing more boring than watching a player sit on the puck, while 4 guys dig at it

it was an amazing goal. In my opinion better than Ovechkin's goal last year(please don't start the Ovie/Crosby thing), just comparing what last years top goal(most considered as top) was.

Full speed, gets on one knee and then drives to reach and redirect the puck into the net. Simply amazing, what a presence of mind.

the st louis goal was alright. He just came in and turned his back, just after the transition he shoveled the puck 5-hole. Not nearly as nice as Crosby's goal, so far the best goal of the season.

TBLfan: I agree it's a strong candidate for goal of the year so far, but a goal like the Datsuyk one against Edmonton (after Markov's hit) is equally impressive. Or what about Boyd's coast to coast a coulpe of days ago (Lightning vs. Wild)

I don't think Crosby's goal was more impressive or skilled than either of those 2, but they are all amazing goals.

Neither om them are close to AO's goal last year though, that was out of this world.

i was at the game and i saw highlights of the goal as well.

i didnt understand why he was falling - but when you watch the replay i thought it looked like his skate got caught in a rut

then since he was falling down because of it - he made a diving stab at the puck and actually got it

i'd love to hear from sidney what actually happened - i missed the postgame inteviews so i wonder if he explained what happened.

maybe he was ducking down to be able to see the puck - i dont know..

Is it just me, or did Sid purposely hook his toe on the post so he'd slow down and spin to prevent him from sliding head first into the boards?

jjtt99: No, he did not purposely use the post to slow him down, you make him sound like superman...

Yeah he does

I beg to differ, I like Crosby over Ovy but Ovy was going full speed trying to beat a defender, fell and still managed to shoot while spinning on his back like a breakdancer...

Sid just dove for a tappin...

I'm not discounting Ovy's goal but it was more of a nice move THEN he got tripped up and he just threw the puck at the net. If the goalie was in position instead of lunging out of position it would have easily been stopped. While you HAVE to give a lot of credit to Ovechkin for staying with it and trying to keep the puck in front instead of in the corner he wasn't trying to score and basically got lucky. And yes a couple nights after he said that he just tried to throw the puck towards the goal to hope for a rebound or something.

Crosby made an awesome play to deflect the puck into the net, no goalie would have a real chance at saving it.

Once again(because I KNOW someone will try to twist my words), Ovechkin's goal was amazing, I'm not saying it wasn't. But in my opinion this goal was better. Datsuyk's was also pretty damn amazing.

*edit - I also meant to add that with the Ovechkin goal; if the goalie would have had an easy save if he wouldn't have put himself out of position and the shot and save probably never would have even gotten more than the inital replay. With the Crosby goal last night, if Holmqvist would have made the save it would have been on highlight reels all night because it would have taken an amazing save to keep it out of the net. For me, that's another element that makes for a great goal.

id compare that one to the one he scored in the world juniors against sweden a couple years ago. that was really the first i saw of crosby and for that goal, im sure a lot of people remember, he was completely off balance and still gave a second effort to put it home. this guy is incredible.

Nice. I love how unconventional he is sometimes.

did you see him the other night? He was standing at the other team's far post, and he knelt down on one knee... no one even noticed him down there... he pops up out of nowhere and almost collected a pass in front all alone.
