Black Holders... What are your thoughts

Recommended Posts

From my own manufacturing experience, black compounds are not as strong as white. I also know this from some of the skate companies that have been nurturing us along in the business. The black colorant weakens the compound.

There is still a big demand for black, and being an aftermarket product makes it easier for us. You get your frames in white and dye them black with Rit dye before mounting them. Or, heaven forbid, red or yellow or green or??

As scary as it may seem, there's a lot of colors out there, and eventually some ice company is going to break out. And I don't mean like the clear blue tuuk. Ice hockey is full of tradition, but there's a ton of fresh killers coming out of roller and they are all used to COLOR!

Maybe you recall the first time the Phoenix Suns went on court in BIG BAGGY SHORTS AND SHIRTS!!! Nobody in the NBA was a skateboarder or gang hipster with big pants hanging off their butt.

Not even Freddy Mercury could bring back short shorts. If sales really get sloppy, change is round the corner.

There are also a lot of people who have been convinced that they are going to change the hockey world and then failed when the buying public didn't do what they assumed. It would be easier for a major manufacturer to change the ice hockey industry than a new player. Customers are willing to accept more from an existing brand then a new one.

As wristshot19 just mentioned, the Vector 10.0 SK. Ovechkin wears them. Pretty pimped out skates. Saw them in person at my LHS, all I can say is you better have some game to wear those babies.

Ovechkin himself has white tuuk customs on his CCM's.

I thought the boot was nice, but the black e-holder was a little too much.

Saw the Sabres play the Cap's in Buffalo and he was sporting the black blades. Pretty cool looking skates anyway.

I've always thought that black tuuk's make your skating "stick out" or look choppy...not that I'm altogether opposed to them (I've had two pairs of skates with them) but they have always seemed to make players look like choppy skaters to me.

You sure you weren't just watching guys with choppy strides?

I think black holders looke nice. Iv'e had them myself on my Graf 501's, Bauer Supreme 3000, Bauer Air-70's. So i kinda missed them when i got my Vapor 6's... Now i don't care that much, but i have a spare set of Black prolites if the white ones on my 1152's would crack...

best looking skate ever made 43%

and sprungster i agree with black being weaker.

ive already broken two holders on my skates.

one just from a hard slapper that shattered the entire thing, the other just sort of broke mid stride. it was very weird. ive never broken any other holder until this year with the black tuuks.

Same here - one holder on each pair of black holders I've had has been shattered with slap shots. And the second set I had was a brand new replacement set. That's when I found out about the weakness problem they have.

Haha....yeah ;)

I agree. That's why I said some Ice company. And it's not happening next week or next year. Look how hard it is for major ice companies just to get their best players on their new product. The more the players make the more they worry about changes in the things they're counting on. And then there's superstition.

Takes a generation.
