Maximum Stick Length

Recommended Posts

I was wondering what the maximum stick length is, and where its measured from, I am currently using a Inno Novius with probaly a 6 or 7 inch plug and a RBK 7K with about a 2 inch plug they are about equal length, just wondering what the maximum stick length is, i'm a tall player and like longer sticks and don't want to be over the rule.

63" measured from the heel of the stick to the top of the shaft.

But as long as your stick isn't like 70+ inches long you probably wouldn't have someone question it... unless you're in the NHL or another pro league.

I think the nhl will be making more exemptions in the future, I'm noticing more and more taller guys in the NHL.

BTW out of curiosity, how much longer is Chara's stick?

Did they change the stick length rule for the entire league...or just make an exception for Chara?

The NHL Rule Book states that players have to apply in writing to receive an exemption.

I believe its only 65".

Locker was talking about it during one of the caps broadcasts, saying if a couple of the caps prospects pan out, they would be looking for exemptions (Joe Finley is 6'7'', and I can't remember the other one he mentioned, maybe Jeff Shultz at 6'6'')

The lightning have a few players right now that are 6'4+ and a couple look like their sticks are borderline if not a bit longer than 63"

If you pretend(seems like the NHL plays with the heights on the player bios) that Lecavalier is accurately 6'4 then Alexeev and Karlsson are in the neighborhood of 6'6+ and Mitch Fritz is probably 6'7-8"

Most (if not all) teams just go with skate height for the most part. The Predators would have Adam Hall listed at 6'3" but I could eat an apple off his head.

So wait a second; I'm 6'3" in socks, so I can list myself as 6'6" when playing? Dude that's the coolest thing ever. I'm like Pronger height out there...

& i finally get to be the 5'10 i always wanted but never got, haha.

i think most of the rangers heights seem acurate to foot size on their web site. except prucha who is listed at 6'.

how tall do you think vinny is in REAL LIFE? lol

Honestly I have no idea. I know Marty isn't 5'9 he's around 5'6-7" I've got a friend that's 5'6 and the boards come up to about the same height on him as Marty. And you can compare Marty to Vinny's height in this pic.

haha Marty looks like a little kid playing hockey with his older brother.

This is so funny look at Martys eyes its like hes looking up to his big brother or father like please teach me to be how good you are

Actually, to me it looks like Team Captain Lecavalier just picked Marty to be on his team, and the guy in back (Foote?) is sad he got picked last.

Theo Fluery's list height was 5'6"

He's about 5'3 off of skates.

Holy cow! That is short! ...No offense to anyone out there.

I'd almost be 6 feet in skates then! Way cool!

Just out of curiousity...why is there an NHL limit on stick length? Is it the same reasoning as the curve rule? Longer sticks might make guys snap pucks higher or something?

I could do a wicked poke check with a 7' stick.

Right...I see that point...Pronger or Chara with a 10' stick could poke check at the blue line from behind their own net...but then what else would they be able to do? Certainly not stick handle, or shoot really...unless they had a lie of about 0.3...
