1) Without WiFi it's pretty brutal, but I'm not usually using it a lot to surf yet and certainly if I can't get a hotspot. Worth the wait for 3G? Depends on your area and I could see the need up here because the network's still switching over and haven't received the upgrades other markets have gotten. I'm not bailing for a new model just for that support as I'm okay only browsing the little bit I do, but it is nice just dinking around with it.

2) Mine's been fine. Had a couple dropped calls but I blame that on the network itself and not the phone. People have had a couple issues hearing me but for the most part it's been okay.

3) I haven't had a problem with it using the cloth they give you. To me it's not different than cleaning an iPod.

I know two guys with them and they have had a lot of call-dropping problems and signal detection problems that they never had before.

It's held up okay for that, but signals up here are hit or miss. I can have zero network in one spot and walk 10' over and get 4 bars.

In NYC edge has actually been pretty good for me. Is it the same as Broadband? NO. But it is quick enough to check up on tsn to check the free agent market, a quick google search, etc.

As for signal strength, mine has been much better. I had a Nokia 8801 which has a pretty powerful antenna on it and I never got consistent service in the basement of my apartment. With the iPhone, I get great service.

I played around with the iPhone for awhile at an Apple Store, and it was pretty cool. The interface was pretty good, very polished. Scrolling wasn't that bad, in fact; it was very smooth as far as scrolling through the contacts list goes. The only quibbles I had were the typing (hard to be precise), and then the internet doesn't load very fast either, even in Wi-Fi (although I'm sure their wireless router as about to explode). If they included a stylus, it would have been much better, for scrolling and typing. I'd also add that the maps function is also extremely useful, and is intuitive as well (if you can type).

When all is said and done, though, Apple could definitely put together a winner if they just ditched the phone part and made an iPod with a web browser. Maybe that's what 6G is going to be, but you never know.

You need some time to get used to the keyboard. I can type very fast on the keyboard now. I got use to it after 2 or 3 days. Im glad they didnt design it to be used with a stylus. It is just so natural to use your fingers, and it is much easier. I dont see how a stylus would be better for typing, that just sounds tedious and ridiculous. There is no way you can type faster with a stylus vs. your thumbs.

I could type plenty fast with my thumbs, but it would be imperfect. That's the problem, in my opinion. A stylus would, obviously enough, increase precision, but slow you down.

Of course, I don't own the iPhone, so whatever. I just sat down with it for 30 minutes, so I'm sure that I would get more precise in time.

You have to learn to trust the keyboard. It makes a lot of corrections for you automatically.

A couple of my buddies JUST got theirs...

The thing is straight up amazing in my eyes...browser seemed to work pretty well for them, and everything about the phone is just cool as hell.

But personally? I'd rather have this without the phone part. Mainly because I have trouble texting on it(and i text a LOT) with the small keys and I prefer the T9word type thing that a lot of companies offer.

Well still holding up well and still my favourite toy ever. Still haven't tried vids on it but I may upload some to it shortly. I love posting from it and figured that the best way to manage the battery life is to manually manage the wifi.

I played with my friend's the other day and I'll admit they're sweet. Like it was mentioned, the typing seems like there is a learning curve to it. Do you guys use your fingers or thumbs? Thumbs seem like it might be impossible.

I know the 1st generation iphone is amazing but if you look at it this way. Apple has had a pattern with the ipod from the 1st generation ipod to now and you see that the 1st generation was expensive, lack of memory and big (thats because of the firewire technology) but still it was large. Also the iphone has maps but it does not have a gps chip that knows where you are in relation to the satelite. But heres where the pattern is

IPOD

1st generation- 3gb low memory and expensive

2nd generation- almost twice the size of the previous memory and it was much cheaper

Do you guys think Apple will do the same thing with the iphone?

How would using firewire make the unit bigger? Apple supported firewire up until the 5th generation, and it can still be used to charge the unit. They moved to USB because 2.0 became a standard and had a theoretical speed of 480Mbps (even though technically Firewire 400 is still faster). USB is also much more commo.

The first generation ipod was 5gb not 3gb. They were 400 dollars. They then released a 10GB iPod for 500. The second generation 10GB ipod was 400 dollars (not a drop in price).

Of course as a technology becomes more advanced and more commoditized it becomes cheaper, this is common sense . Its not just Apple, its the industry.
