New Elbow Pads

Recommended Posts

As the topic says, I'm in the market for new elbow pads and I want a pair that are light and mobile.

I found a pretty good deal on a pair of Stealth S9's, but I can't find a local shop that carries them to try them on. Anyone have those or tried them on? What did you think of them? How is the fit compared to Jofa?

I had Jofa's before, but I don't like the new RBK's as much, so those are out.

What are the Nike V-11's and V-14's like for people who have experience with those?

Any help is appreciated.

i've tried the stealths, 8k's and v14/11 in store, the best out of the bunch were the v14 for mobility. the stealth's straps were uncomfortable and the slanted strap was insecure and the 8k's were not nearly as light or mobile as the v14s.

the v14s had a nice and deep pocket, the bicep was really flexible and the forearm guard was shaped nicely, since it was a piece of precurved curved plastic with memory foam under it with a really nice rubber strap.

i would definately recommend them the most out of the bunch

Mission fuel 120 elbows are an option to consider, they have the mobility of a three piece and should be really comfortable if anything like the M-1's

I don't want to sacrifice too much protection. The reason I'm getting new elbows is that mine are now worn enough that I feel impacts more than I should. They are about 2.5 years old now. Money isn't too much of an issue. I want the best balance of mobility, comfort, weight and protection (as does everyone). I tend to not like the really high end elbows, shoulders and shins because they are bulkier and heavier. The S9's seem really nice though.

the thing with the s9's is that middle strap, the neoprene one. it was stiff and didn't flex at all with my elbow.

I have the S9's and I really like them. They're very light, have great protection, and are very comfortable. I found the straps to be a whole heck of a lot more comfortable than everything else I tried on. They really stay in place very well and don't bind or pinch at all. I am VERY pleased with them.

Don't have much experience with anything else though so I'm afraid my opinion isn't worth a whole lot...

Thanks alot guys. I will probably go with either the V-14 or the S9. I appreciate your help. Any further comments are welcome if anyone else wants to chime in.

I just got the V14s and HATE them. great feel shit protection pardon my launguage but thats what it is. I dove and landing on my elbow felt as if there was nothing there. The nike air did nothing and i just hit my elbow on the plastic cap. I just had mission 110 elbow pads and adored them but they fell apart in a month so I returned them and all my shop had was v14s which are comfy but as previously stated, dont protect.

mobility-wise I would go with Nike. My V-10s were great except they weren't doing so good a job of protecting my elbows.

I have the same situation with mine, I kind of had to buy them as well, they were a good deal and there was nothing else. Although I would much rather have a three-piece that doesnt flop to the side when I land on it and actually flexes with my arm.

if you don't mind the bulk I suggest getting a pair of Jofa 9066s if you can find any. 4 straps which is perfect for me, and mobility wise I didn't notice much of a difference from my V-10s with these. Protection wise? Dual caps, you don't need no lame Nike Air (which does nothing also stated by slipslap).

The elbows that I'm using right now are Jofa 9035's. They are alright. I do prefer them to the RBK's out now. However, I think that I want to try something different than Jofa/RBK this time. I think I will stay away from the Nike's as they aren't getting many good reviews. I like the idea of a neoprene strap, so I think I'm leaning towards the S9's.

If I wear a size 5 Medium in Jofa, would I be a medium in the Easton Stealths?

I have V-12, the same as V-14s. I think they are very comfortable, stay in place with the grip print, have no mobility issues with the bicep pad, and I have never felt the ice on any impacts. I also like the shape of the pad as it contours to my forearm. I have had the pads over 2 years and they are holding up very well.

Damn, I just ordered RBK 6K's online the other day, and now everyone is saying they're bulky, heavy, don't sit right, and cumbersome :(

I haven't gotten them yet to see if its true for myself.

The upper portion of elbow pads doesn't bother me too much. I don't wear shoulder pads as I play in a non-hitting rec league. You still get the odd hit or crosscheck, so I bought a Mission Thorax shirt. I absolutely love it. It's designed for roller, but it works well for recreational ice hockey.

So, nobody knows about sizing? Should most brands mediums (elbow pads) fit about the same?

I am surprised by the comments on the V-14s....I have had them for about three months now, and I have taken a few hits and falls on my elbows. No pain whatsoever. Could be they might have shifted during play, but mine are nice and tight and have been great protection. I also use the V14 shin guards and really like those too. I have taken a ton of shots off them and no issues whatsoever.
